The 22 series of smaller pistols has been long gone, and very seldom appear for sale...because they actually work very well. I have one, bought around 9 years ago for around $200, which I thought was steep at the time. The last one I saw for sale was priced near $400, so I guess I did better than I thought...

Anybody have one or seen one for sale recently?

thanks

Agreed! Love that series of pistols. I have 2. This one from 1994 with a 6" barrel and a shorter blue 4" barreled one. They have never malfunctioned and eat everything I've fed them. I'm not sure why they slipped through in being so popular like many other .22s were.

One day I'd like to add the 2213 shorter version like you mentioned to the pack.

Had a 2213 (the blued version, whichever number that was) that I got in a trade. It worked great, but all the controls were sufficiently different from what I carried that I thought to give it as a gift to a friend who owned a 422 which I coveted, hoping he might offer his to me, but he did not.

Now he might be selling both for $500, so I will likely have them both eventually after all.

They are cool little guns. Have enjoyed shooting them both for years without any noticeable issues.

Models 2213 ETC.

I just wanted to add that they really did slip through the cracks as far as popularity during the time they were manufactured, never figured out why! I have really learned to appreciate the M-2206 for the added weight and its recoil absorption. The only other example I've had experience with is the 6" M-422, mind you its performance was flawless just jumped ever so slightly when I fired it. The M's 2213 & 14 are more of a pocket size but just as dependable. Enjoy your time shooting & plinking!

Had one

I traded it back in February for a S&W 32-1 .38 S&W.

My son has a limited edition brushed nickel S&W 2214, his first handgun, given to him twenty-three years ago.

I bought the 2214 (the blued version) recently so my wife could try it out; she is getting more interested in shooting, so I thought I would start her out with a friendly little semi. She likes it, but she also likes a .22 Airlite revolver I got for her to try also.

The 2213/2214/2206 series comes up at auction fairly regularly these days -- check GunBroker.com; there usually are a few examples on there at any given time -- and you're right that the prices on them have gone way up. A new-in-box 2213 sold recently on there for over $800, believe it or not. Usually, though, the 2213 in excellent condition has been bringing in the $400 to $450 range; same for the 2214, though maybe demand for those isn't quite as high. (The blued finish shows every little mark, and even normal usage over the years will result in a pistol that has some "freckles" on it.)

I also have a 422 6" barrel (the blued series of semi-autos) with target sights, and a 622 VR (the clear-cote aluminim frame with stainless slide, and ventilated rib) with adjustable sights. Both of them are a lot of fun at the range, and more accurate than I am. I'll own a Model 41 one of these days, but until then these are my .22LR target pistols. :)

Might be letting go of the 422 and the 2214 soon (NOTE from 11/2014: I did sell both of these later to a Forum member.) , so if anyone is interested let me know. I got them as a pair from a fellow who had used the 2214 a bunch and the 422 very little. I put wood grips on the 422 and it looks sharp, even next to its over-the-moon-pretty 622VR cousin!

I still would love to have a 2214 in the brushed nickel finish that ColbyBruce mentioned he had given his son many years ago. That is one sharp looking little semi-auto! He has a picture of it; maybe he'll post it again....

New to forum; I joined because I found a 2214 at the LGS today and it followed me home.
Seems like a real nice pistol, looking forward to learning more about it.

I shy'ed away from these guns for many years because I prefer (preferred) 22s that looked and handled like centerfire pistols (Beretta 71 and 87, Daewoo 52, Bersa 23 for example) but a few months ago I (and a lot of others it seems) gained interest in them.

As far as their "unpopularity" and why they were dropped I've heard three things:

1- the gun was too expensive for the masses, they want cheap not necessarily good (Wal Mart, anyone?)

2- they required a lot of hand fitting so margins were slim to nonexistent

3- it was (they were) 95% as good a gun as a 41 for 50% (or so) of the price, so S&W was cutting into its own profitability / success

I'm sure the truth is some combination of all three.

Yep, its a 622VR. They make one with a shorter barrel (4.5") that I am looking for. There's one on a popular gun auction site with a starting price of $999.99 (with no bidders), but that is way over what I would pay for one....so I guess I'll just bide my time until one comes along at the right price.

I recently purchased a S&W 61-2 (Blue), a S&W 2206 and a S&W 2213 in that order and should receive them in that order soon. The average price I paid for these three was $394.00 plus shipping and FFL fees.

From what I've read, keep the 61 in the safe, shoot the 2213. I think I remember reading the 61's commonly were finicky. They seem to be collectable though.

I have not checked this thread in years, and thanks for all the responses. I still have my 2213, put away in a drawer with a few spare mags. I carried it in summers for a while because it was pretty small and fit in cargo shorts, and it NEVER failed to fire, no matter what...and I have found only one .22 pistol since that can do that reliably...an old and larger ASTRA Constable.

I have not seen an S&W 2213 for sale for some time, but I paid around $200 for mine some years ago...last one I saw was around $400. IMO, Smith made these to be lower price but good pistols just as plastic guns were coming into favor...and they abandoned them soon after.

Most people have never seen one or even heard of one. I probably will keep mine just to have it.

I've got 2 2213's and a 2214, great guns. You can actually use the mags from the larger(422/622/2206) pistols in them also. They obviously hang out of the mag well a bit, but makes it more fun at the range to push 10-12 rounds out at a time.
