I have a Russian commercial Makarov PM chambered in .380 auto. I bought it used, but it looks to be in excellent shape. Since I don't know how many rounds it has through it, I want to replace the recoil spring to make sure it doesn't damage itself.

Does anyone know exactly what spring weight i need for this pistol? I see that Midwayusa has the Wolf 'conventional spring 19 pounds 'extra power'. Is this the one to get for the .380? I know that weak springs will batter the frame on recoil, but strong springs could batter the frame on return to battery.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Check the Woff website. They show more detail and give you more choices than Midway. You can still buy it from Midway but will have a better idea what you need.

I'll offer a suggestion; The Makarov is a pretty hefty gun for the .380
round and domestic .380 ammo isn't exactly noted for being hot. You
are more likely to experience stovepipe jams from weak ammo than to
experience battering of your gun from US factory rounds. Shoot it and
see how it functions. Your search may shift to ammo hot enough to be
reliable in your Makarov.

It's originally chambered in a slightly more powerful round. You aren't going to damage it and I also have never heard of someone wearing one out especially the commercial 380
