What is involved in converting a 642 into a 9mm like the 940? It is just a matter of having a smith fit a 9mm cylinder?

Thanks,

It is as simple, and as complex as that. First you need an early 642, pre-J Magnum frame, then you need a 940 cylinder, which are practically impossible to find since Numrich's sold out of them a couple of years ago. However, once you have the right gun and a cylinder, it's just a matter of fitting them together.:)

According to the SCSW they changed to the J-magnum frame with The 940-2 (1996). I don't know if they use the same cylinder or if a later 940 cylinder will work in a J mag frame 642. Maybe someone here knows the answer.
