Making Oregon a "sanctuary state" for animals

Not to spoil everybody's appallment party, but if I got this worked up over every crackpot initiative here, I wouldn't ever have time for anything else.

This is an intiaive petition at this point. We get a gazillion of these. The activists behind it have scrounged up 1000 signatures (not much of a feat in Oregon) to submit to the secretary of state.

This entitles them to a ballot title and the right to now try to gather another cool 112,020 verified signatures to get it on the Nov. 2022 ballot. That might happen. Then it has to be approved by the voters. Won't happen. This is so far out that nobody here seems to be taking it seriously, never a good omen if you're pushing a "cause" rather than policy. Most of the chatter about it comes from out-of-state outrage peddlers.

I agree. And as I stated earlier, this has very little chance of passing. But then again don't forget the people laughing out loud when describing Trumps chances of being elected in 2016. But again I agree, not "likely" to pass but expected to get enough signatures to at least put it up to vote.

I wonder if Federal land like National Forests would be included.
I think that the State makes good money leasing grazing land to ranchers. Federal lands also.
If the law only covers harvesting, then it should still be possible to "import" our good Washington beef, etc. If harvesting means slaughter, then the live animals would have to be sold out of State.

...or the slaughterhouses could be on an Indian Reservation if they've got any. $Cha-ching$ for The Nations.

From a deer friendly website in Ohio, "With the exception of a brief hiatus due to extirpation in the very early 1900s (Europeans just missed their 100 years to kill everything in the state), white-tailed deer have existed in Ohio since the end of the last ice age...Deer were reintroduced from neighboring states beginning in the 1920's."
So all the deer were almost hunted to extinction in Ohio. What would happen if some catastrophic event made hunters out of everyone. I bet there would be no four legged animal alive in less than two years. All the hunters I know are responsible people. They eat what they shoot.

This is the same thing as the crazy ban all gun bills that get introduced every session. It's a way for some rep to claim to be trying to do something on an issue with an extreme bill that will never pass.

That said, if you're a hunter or angler, go out and get new people into it. Same as guns, you've all heard people talk about how they'd like to try it, go ahead and take them out to do something and get us some new allies. The bill won't pass now, but in 30 or 40 years? Who knows.

Based upon the riots and general lawlessness without consequence over the last year or so, I'd say Oregon is already an animal sanctuary.

Well if it does pass...........
and fish and game are included..............

Kiss the Fish & Game Dept. and all the Federal employees and workers good by and add them to the unemployment line.

Great idea, right ?? !!
