I ordered a pair of Mammoth Ivory panels for my Ruger SP101.

I’ve gotten interested in elk, horn, and fossilized Ivory for my grips of 1911s and this ruger.

This was from Spresser custom grips. They are stabilized, and seem to be durable. The fit is just OK, as one side has a small gap. I can live with it.

Overall they look cool and would be a great conversation starter.

Does anyone have or like Mammoth Ivory now that Elephant Ivory is restricted? What about Walrus Ivory or Rams / Sheep horn?

I’ve got elk my Colt Gold cup, and I’m thinking either Walrus Ivory, Mammoth, or ram horn. Any suggestions and comments welcome. Thanks

Those panels are beautiful.

I'm thinking of ordering from NC Ordance; they seem to have a wide selection and a long reputation.

Also: is there any way to confirm that Mammoth Ivory that I purchase is not actually poached (and illicit) elephant tusk?

Does anyone have any Walrus tusk or Rams horn?

Thanks.

I have Mammoth and Mastadon on many of my knives

Here is one of my favorite carry knives

I have several others, just not with photographs handy.

And nothing has stopped my from acquiring things with Elephant Ivory, it is just new production that you have to watch yourself.

I love Ivory on blue or color case hardened firearms

These are somewhat current production, just not a lot of character in them yet.

I am thinking they would be nice pallets for some scrimshaw

Please forgive me for voicing my personal opinion but all the Ruger Grips with inserts are not my first or even second choice, "Cheezy" seems to be the definition of choice. Just know it's nothing personal toward you Sir and I'm sure there must be many others who are not in agreement because they appear to sell a bunch of them. I do enjoy those made with solid materials in stead of laminated or inserted type.

I'm a fan of all things bone, antler, and ivory from whatever legal source.

Elk antler:

All by bgmntman of this Forum.

These bonded ivory stocks were stained by water and whatever the firefolks blasted around my house in my 2018 fire, or maybe it was the heat on the safe, so I don't use them any longer but they were pretty when they were spotlessly white:

Just because we're on the subject here are two older guns with stag grips:

My suggestion is...stay away from Ebay if you ever look to sell the grips.

I have a Bowie knife with 20,000+ yr old Mammoth Ivory scales and I tried to list it for sale on eBay and the company literally went bonkers.

I thought they were gonna send a hit squad to my house to off me for having the nerve to post it on their site. They acted like I had just flown to Africa, kilterated me a pachyderm and plastered tusks all over my manhood and was parading around.

It got so bad I finally had to call their corporate office to complain and the freak-show employee I got in the phone started bursting out crying during our conversation because of the poor slaughtered elephants. No amount of explaining it to her would convince her that A) it was from a mammoth...not an elephant...B) the critter died 20,000+ years ago so it wasn't pouched and C) I wasn't breaking any laws with the knife.

Didn't make one iota of difference. I was told that it doesn't matter and if I tried to post it again they were going to cancel my account entirely. Period, end of story.

These West Coast people are IN-SANE. Not to mention highly unprofessional.

That’s stunning! Turnbull?
OP,
Sorry for the thread drift from the Woolly Mammoth

arjay,
That is a Kimber Centennial. These were produced for the 100th Birthday of the 1911.

Yes Kimber had Doug Turnbull do the color case hardening.

Smith & Wesson also had Doug Turnbull do frames for them as well. These were for the Ed McGivern Specials and the Heritage Series revolvers

I have been looking at Mammoth or Mastodon stocks and grips for a while...haven't purchased any yet. I do have some elk 1911 panels that have some great character. These are on my Combat Elite that Turnbull reblued and Wilson slicked up.
