Hi:
Just posting what the news report said----My BAD, I should know better--at least the news didn't I.D. as an "Assault Weapon".

No! I was hoping the shooter did NOT have a carry permit. This type of thing makes us look bad, and gives fuel to the anti's.

Besides....weren't we told that .380 was inadequate?

jimmyj...are you sure about that caliber?

Around here, people use their cell phones anywhere they damn well please, including talking and texting in a movie theater while the show is on.

That's why I quit going to movie theaters... :(

Terribly sad! Poor girl lost her Dad, Mom is in hospital.

Not knowing all details of what happened, but I doubt that the Dad was a threat to the shooter.

All he had to do was to sit somewhere else. Swallow your pride.

Walk or run from trouble if you can regardless if you are armed or unarmed.

Hope they throw book at the shooter!

I guess it is time for me to crawl out from under my rock. I do not text nor do I hang out with people that text. Please explain what is upsetting about someone texting in front of you in a theater. I am serious. I guess I do not get out too much and I have not been in a movie theater in at least 15 or 20 years. I can understand someone getting upset about someone talking on a cell phone or loud conservation but I for the life of me can not see getting upset over someone texting. Am I missing something here?

I've got a cell phone but don't use it anywhere near an hour per year. Pretty much care emergencies only. Wife, daughters, SIL, and grandkids on the other hand are on theirs all the time.

Never texted, fingers are too fat and eyes too bad without reading glasses. I'm not a fan but have learned to live with them. Cell phones and texting are just part of modern life and I've just had to learn to live with them. Can't go around hitting or shooting people whose use interferes with my life.

Imagine someone shining a flashlight in your face the entire movie. Not quite that bad, but pretty close.

While this situation is fodder for jesting, it is also yet another opportunity for anti-gun fanatics to infringe upon 2A. If the call doesn't go out for taking guns away, I surmise that metal detectors in theaters will be an idea batted around, or some other intrusive "security" measure.

Long ago I stopped going to sporting events and movie theaters due to boorish (and often dangerous) behavior of sundry amateurs who believe the world is their public playground.
But really ... Getting shot over being rude and inconsiderate with a phone? C'mon ... has mankind gone completely insane?

I recall the scene from Lonesome Dove when Captain Call whipped the army scout for bad manners.

It's unfortunate that folks don't exercise common courtesy much these days. Maybe this poor guy's death won't be in vain.

I agree that some do not exercise common courtesy these days.

Hope I never have to sneeze in public or heaven forbid a movie theater, I might get shot!

Hope rest of the shooters life is a living hell.

Don't go to a theater if you are that important.
It's not about being important. Every now and then my wife and I like to go out to dinner and a movie. Now that my son is 14 we don't have any problem leaving him home, but when he was younger he would stay with friends. What if something happened to him? Wouldn't you want to be informed?

This is total BS. It's nothing like having a flashlight in your face. If I keep my phone in my lap you would have to be looking over my shoulder to even notice it. I could understand if the guy was holding the phone up over his head, but I'll bet he wasn't. AND, the movie hadn't even started. It's not like the dead guy was doing it through the whole movie.

Sure - BUT -- Phone goes *ding* you go to the lobby and take your call or message.
Why bother the rest of the people that PAID FOR A TICKET with your problem?

OTOH - The guy should have NEVER even pulled his gun! DUH!
If he would have hit him upside the head he'd still be in jail, but not for anywhere as long........
I would have (and actually have) sat down next to him and commented on his texts :D
For some reason when I did this the guy moved - Go figure

It is a rude, unnecessary, and an unneeded distraction. It seems that more and more people do not have any consideration for anyone but themselves. I would ask you to reconsider your opinion on this. The backlight on a cell phone is very bright and distracting in a dark theater.

I'm scared to go to movie theaters now I'm afraid now even the excops are shooting them up what's next shooting in churches? Is any place ever safe?
Is any body safe now?

Isn't it against the law in some places to carry a gun into a theater?

Will this excop be put into prison with the general public inmates?

I do movie nights at home just for this reason. I have a kitchen full of fine eats. Plus in the bathroom I don't have to worry who used the seat last. I wait till I get home anyway. My popcorn is just was good too.

Texting is rude but shot for it?

Other possibilities...

What if the retired PO has early onset Alzheimer's ? They can react with disproportionate violence.

He may have been recently diagnosed with an incurable illness and knew his wife would not be able to care for him. Place an obnoxious overbearing lout in front of him and he sees a path to extended care for the rest of his short life and also the chance to remove a boil from society's posterior.

I will defer opinions until all the information is reported by our unbiased press. :D:D:D

I've been to 2 movies since 1982 and now that I have a large screen HD TV and remote with pause and rewind on it I doubt I ever go back. My wife goes every now and then with my daughters and grandkids.
