I've read that the 4-digit number below the SKU gives the year and then the 3-digit date number (form a 365 day calendar). I don't have a number with that format. Can anyone tell from this UPC sticker when my M&P Shield was born?

It Looks like they changed from the old 4 digit Year/Day Number code to a simple 6 Digit MM/DD/YY code.
I'm going to guess that yours rolled off the line on (or about) 07/01/14.
When did you actually buy it and what's the date stamped on your spent cartridge envelope?

When I sell a gun at work, I show them the envelope, & sometimes it's from 10 days ago. That's the easiest way. Also the black box is the newest, so I'd agree with the 7/14 mfg date. Since that's so recent, I'm sure the envelope is still with the gun. GARY

Yep. Noticed this a short time back. Looked at the box of a new M&P, and went "What new code is this?" And then realized it wasn't a code, it was the manufacture date! Kudos S&W!

I hadn't even thought to look at the spent cartridge. It's dated 7/1/14. I picked up the gun yesterday from my FFL.

BTW, I don't think I'm getting a job with the NSA anytime soon. I should have cracked that code. Thanks! lol

My Shield will be one month old tomorrow. I hope it doesn't take long for this trigger to smooth out. It really seems to have issues. It has this unpredictable (intermittent) click/resistance in the takeup. I've heard of other guns needing a break in period to both function properly with different ammo and to smooth the trigger out. Hopefully it will get better with time.

The scheme did change. Here's a pic of the boxes from my FS and 9C.
