I have the same knife that I acquired from my wife’s grandfather’s estate. He passed in 1977. He hadn’t been hunting since the mid-1960’s, so mine is at least 55 years-old. Mine has a home-made sheath with a sharpening stone glued to it. I called Marbles years ago to get a factory sheath but got nowhere with them.

I still use this knife for skinning. It holds an edge fairly well, but takes a bit of work to resharpen.

If I remember rightly, you can date the Gladstone Marbles knives by the arrangemen and number of the colored spacers at the ends of the handles. The tang stamp will also give you some information. A search on bladeforums.com should turn it up for you. The info can probably be found other places as well.

I am by no means an authority here, but to me it does not look prewar. Maybe more like the late 50's to early to mid 60's. I am old enough to remember the design. The pommel looks to be aluminum, and thee sheath has rivets in it, but I am probably wrong:D

Enjoyed seeing it myself. Looks like leather wrapped handle. Well made and looks in pretty decent condition. Nice you have it. Old hunting like this one can be a treasure to own. Wish they could talk.

I acquired an old Marbles knife years ago. It was in pretty rough shape. I called Marbles and was told if I sent it to them along with $10.00 (I think it was), they would recondition it and send it back. I got it back a couple of weeks later. It was sharpened and all polished up (the best they could given the condition of the knife). They also sent me a letter with the approximate age of the knife (1916-1919) and an approximate value of $125.00.

Your knife looks to be in pretty good condition. It might behoove you to send it to them. It will come back looking nice.

Marble made great Knives and made them for years with minimum model changes.
Makes it difficult to determine Year made.
Marsh wheeling has good advice.

That looks like my first hunting knife my dad gave me back in the '60s. I don't know how long he had it before that time. I do know the sheath looked nothing like that one. It kinda looks like the Herter's knife sheath Dad bought way back then. That's a nice one there.

Great pic and story from Eric. Just think 1916-1919 and knife still around and looking good after all these years. Bet that skinned some deer.
