The battle and fall of the Alamo and the execution of the surving defenders showed all Texans what life under Santa Anna would be like. My son in law is from Belgium. His mother came to visit us three years ago. We all went to the Alamo and she was very moved, she asked her son to translate this "This place is as important to history as the other place I have been to, Bastogne". Her family suffered under the Nazi occupation and she was just a young girl back then and recognized that all good men will fight tyranny.

What gets to me is that the media will probably be silent on Alamo Day, lest they offend anyone who might object to this bit of Texas history.

Our heroes fell and they don't want to acknowledge them anymore. I think most of the media here now came from outside the state. Some may even be unaware of Alamo Day. And I think that PC teachers also foster a lack of respect for our history and how we got our freedom.

I really wonder how many Texas school kids are taught traditional history subjects now. Without this heritage, our values will wither and our youth not feel pride in their origins and faith in our future, or feel any duty to preserve our heritage and our freedom. The nanny state edges ever closer.

I've stood in the Alamo, and wish that everyone could. You feel a sense of something holy and heroic. And a sense of reverence. We need to publicly honor that every year.

A lot of folks don't know that this was the second battle of the Alamo. The first battle happened when the Texans took the Alamo from the Mexican garrison.

Andrea Giuffredi deguello The Alamo - YouTube

"El Deguello", played here by (!) a Croatian military band.

This is supposedly the song ordered by Santa Anna before the battle to signal that no quarter would be given to the Texan defenders of the Alamo.

It was apparently of Moorish origin and came to Mexico via Spain.

It is a beautiful song to signify what it did.

This version may be the authentic "Deguello".

I am not a Texan (except in my heart) but this has been my favorite Shrine for the last 58 years since I reported into the USAF.I later did Basic Jet Training at Laredo.I love Texas and visit whenever I can and always spend a few hours thinking of the heroes who died there.I was proud of the South Carolinians who died there.
I am distressed by the lack of historical history of so many Americans, even adults. It will cost us dearly in the future.
