It's been raining for two days. I'm bored and I've been digging in the safes. I thought I'd share these three with you guys.

I apologize for the lighting in these pictures. I would prefer to snap them in brighter daylight.

These are all three Marlin Model 1893's in .30-30 with 1/2 octagon barrels.

Two are take downs, two have 2/3's mag tubes, one is a deluxe model, one has deluxe wood, one is straight stocked, and one has a knife blade front sight.

I find it interesting that the barrel transition on the different rifles are at varying lengths even though they are all 26".

Beautiful rifles. Im also interested in the barrel transitions. Ive never seen a difference in the Winchester 1/2 octagon barrel lengths but i am a relative novice. Thats an entire new look to me.

The closest rifle in the photo has an A prefix which is after 1906. The middle rifle dates to 1898. The back rifle has a D prefix which is later than 1906.

All three rifles have the 1893 model designation on the upper tang. This was changed to Model '93 in 1905. I can see the A prefix rifle still having the 1893 model designation as parts inventory was used up, but the D prefix gun has it also.

The barrel transition on the A and D prefix guns seems to match, while the earlier 1898 rifle is considerably different.
