Anybody know about Maryland Gun Works and the work of Lou Ciamillo? A 629 with a 2 1/2 inch ported barrel is being sold locally for $1200. I don't have any more info. Any opinions out there?
He was much liked by Ayoob back in the 80s, IIRC. Looks like a barrel bob and maybe a round butt treatment from the pic. Should have a good action job.
Shark....what are you waiting for, you couldn't duplicate that gun for 1200. My Aunt has a similar gun from Mag na port, called the Professional, if she offered it to me for 15 I'd be all over it.
I shot a Ciamillo PPC gun for years, in excess of 100k rounds, always shot better than I could - held 1/2 X-ring @ 50 yds from a Ransom rest. His hop used to be about a 2hr drive from my house. Was sorry to see him get out of gun building.
I think I have an old catalog of his down in the shop, I'll check and advise tonight.
Found the catalog - it's from 1993, with his Martinez, GA address after he left Hyattstown, MD. Doesn't show any 629s. It does have an old phone # and address, if you're interested. Don't know if he's still there.
The serial number is ACU00**. Does this provide any useful info? I am also trying to get verification from Lou Ciamillo on this gun. We'll see if MGW can come through for me.
Just heard back from Lou Ciamillo and it does seem that this is one of his guns. I got my hands on it and the action is wonderful. I'll go ahead and pick it up if I can swing a reasonable deal. Lou has a great quote at the bottom of his email and I think I'll plagiarize it:
"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history, when everybody stands around reloading"--Thomas Jefferson
