Mauser HSc Identification

I'm looking for some help identifying a Mauser HSc I recently acquired from my uncle. The serial number and acceptance marks indicate its a WWII Army producion model (E/655 and E/N: second variation circa 1941). However, I have some worries. I think the gun has been chrome or nickel plated in the recent past - at least I can't image the german army commisioned a nickel plated version for its soldiers. That said, I can't see an acceptance mark on the right side of the slide at the barrel end (E/N). Is it possible the chrome/nickel could have covered the mark? The reciever, magazine, and barrel have the correct markings, but the reciever and clip are also plated. Also, how would I remove the plating to see if the marking is there - and would it damage the gun?

It was very common for returning GI's to have bring back pistols chrome or nickel plated. If there was a proof mark on the slide it might have been buffed off during the plate job. I'd not worry about it as long as it seems to work o/k. The bad is the value has been lost do to the refinish.

If you can't see it through the plating, removing the plating won't help as it is not there. The mark was probably buffed out when it was polished during the plate job as sureshotbob said.

Value is minimal due to the refinish, it's a good shooter now, not a collectible. They're interesting little guns, fun to shoot and well made. Enjoy it for what it is.
