Maybe It Is Me....Yes, It Probably Is.....

I love to trade and sell I have no guns with the exception of the ones pap left me that I won't sell or trade . I love shooting different ones I am partial to the older ones but I'm always open to an offer.

I find it hilarious we can have a thread about how "annoying" it is to have people calling the home unsolicited, but I should be okay with unsolicited offers to buy my firearms.

I think the difference here is that the "caller" is offering money instead of asking you to buy something

I've had folks ask about buyin or tradin for a few of mine...No big deal, it's part of the sport. ;)

I'm not a gun trader...More of a horse trader, I'd say.

My older brother got all the family guns, so the ones I have are mine, all mine...No, I won't sell ya one.;)
But, if'n ya got sum really good tradin stock, we'll talk. ;):D

Had a feller ask 'bout buyin a particular firearm of mine one time...I didn't want to sell that one,
but he sez,"I got a 300 Win. Mag you need!"

Well, everyone has sumthing they think I need. So jest outta curiosity I asked, "Where'd you get it?"
"Oh," he sez,"Ordered it from Buckeye Shooters Supply in 1963 to take on a mule deer hunt in Colorado.
Been setting in the gun case ever since then."

I'm smilin' all on the inside,"How much ya want for it?"
"Five hundred, scope and all." in a firm, I ain't dickerin around tone of voice.

Me, "I'll Take It!" :D:D:D

The moral of this tale is...If this gentleman had not opened up this line of communication,
I would have missed out on one of the best rifles I own...And no it's not for sale.

Su Amigo,
Dave

Best post yet. ^^

Back in my short LE career, in another lifetime long ago, I have sold the gun out of my holster and had to run home and get another one. Have also bought 'em like that. "Hey, that's a nice looking Model XX, what'll you take for it?"
Never got annoyed, nor seemed to annoy anyone else.

My-how rude!!!

Well-what an eye opener-much of this thread is a reinforcement of the old, "when you assume..." I'd have never thought anyone would be offended by an offer to sell, or buy a gun, here on a "gun forum." Just so I can avoid any intensities in the future, I invite anyone to offer to buy or sell me anything they want, anytime they want. Nuff' said. Flapjack.

Only slightly disturbing?

Yeah he's only a slightly disturbed fellow :D Just enough to keep him from gun ownership. He wanted a gun because he's afraid someone will break in and steal his coin collection. The disturbing part is I sold him some of those coins 2 years ago and he still hasn't paid me for them and had the nerve to ask me to sell him a gun. I wouldn't sell him one anyways because of his condition and if he was of full capacity I would make him pay for the coins but sometimes it's just better to let stuff go

What's wrong with asking if something's for sale? I see nothing about the question that would be annoying. I have been asked many times if I would sell a particular gun or if I had any guns for sale. It does not annoy or upset me in any way. I have an '87 Bronco II, Eddie Bauer edition that is original and almost perfect condition and about every time I drive it, someone wants to know if I would sell it. A local deputy stopped me one day, lights, siren and all and asked if I would sell my Bronco. When I said no, he said "name your price", I still have it. I take it as a compliment. Ease up a little.

Am I the only person that finds unsolicited offers to buy firearms annoying as all get out? I have never posted a for sale thread in the classifieds, yet recently I have received requests to sell my 681, my 586-3, and my 4505. I have never even stated in any thread I would ever even CONSIDER selling any of my firearms. Now maybe if I had EVER even alluded to the fact that I "maybe" would consider it, I could understand all the private messages I have received asking me to sell a firearm.

Maybe I am being rude, but hey, go beat the bushes like I did and look for them. For example, it took me 3 years to find my 4505....I didn't find it by sending folks private messages asking to buy theirs. I went to gun shops, gun shows, and scoured the internet until I found it. Are people really that lazy now? Part of the fun for me is the hunt.

Seriously.....if you want a particular firearm, put some effort into it. Or hey, here's a novel idea.....post in the wanted to buy section.

Okay, I'm off my soap box and putting on my flame-proof suit.

My good fellow - the limit should be 3 cups of coffee...just 3 cups. :D

one of the best rifles I own...And no it's not for sale.

I've heard that one before. Its just negotiating. Its all for sale if the right price is offered up! :D :D

I think of my jewels - the prewar 44 3rd model target, the postwar 3rd Model 44 target. And I say to myself "they're not for sale". I'm not sayin' I'm a liar, but I know darn good and well if either the right price or trade comes along, those puppies are history.

One of my springtime hobbies is yard-sailin'. And this is springtime. When I see a sign for a yardsale, the ole jeep just veers off that way. And at the first sign of outdoors stuff I ask if they've got any old guns or ammunition. Especially the older women that look like widows. They're scared to death of the old man's guns, and have no idea they could put them out for sale. They don't really want the unruly neighbors even knowin' they've got that kind of thing. Often they are overjoyed at the idea of selling and having them gone. Which fits well into my ideas of buying stuff and hauling it away.

And I've had folks get annoyed at me asking from time to time. One old guy had some wrenches on a table. He was missin' some of the important flat wrenches, so I asked him if he had the missing ones. He blew up and said if he'd had them, he wouldn't be sellin the others. One old guy out in Indiana got all twisted out of shape because I asked him if he'd take a few bucks less. He went on a tirade just because I asked! Folks are strange. So when you ask you've got to be ready for them to throw a fit from time to time. I'm plannin' on askin' a bunch more in the future. And I really don't care if they get upset or not.

If you give somebody a low ball offer, it can be reason for them to blow up. I try to avoid that just because they might rightfully get upset. Its best to ask politely and not toss out figures that might upset them. If they want too much, you can claim poverty and just thank them.

Dang it Dick,
I spend the better part of a life time perfecting that line and
in one felt-swoop you disseminate my whole trade strategy. ;)

I got a 3rd model target of sorts...Yeah, a five inch, purty fair shape.

And no I don't want to sell it neither, ;):D:D

Geez, just another thread that shows how unliked my Smiths are. I post pics all the time, probably too often, but no one has ever offered my anything for my Smiths.

my wife says, my gun safe is like "hotel california" (you can check out any time you want, but you can never leave)
To me, If someone wants to buy one of mine, I would take that as a compliment. With a no thank you reply.

Now, this has been an educational post -- I did not know that you could sell your guns -- I thought that a gunowner had to give them back to the government if he wanted to get rid of them. Holy cow, you mean I can sell my guns to a friend or neighbor??? God is good and all is right with the world.

I can't tell you how many times I have been asked about selling this book!

So I guess the next time some jazzbo drops me a line and tells me that I should sell him just the left hand stock panel off of one of my Registereds and then TELLS me that he can find them anywhere for $200, so he's sending me $100 'cause it's ONLY ONE SIDE, who wants to get that mail forwarded to them?
