For the first time yesterday I fired my 1960 made Md 41 with a 7 3/8th's barrel. It was some very informal shooting with my Son. We had some targets set up at about 20-25 yards. It looked like the group sizes would have been a few inches shooting off of a rest. I also shot my Md 17 6 inch gun at the same targets using the same rest. I could cover 6 shots with a quarter. Any ideas whats up?

I can suggest that you try several different brands and lots of ammo and find one that shoots well. I would suggest that maybe the barrel could be leaded up a little. You have already said that you fired gun for first time.
Practice some more and find the right ammo.
Have fun with it.

I have a 1959 model 41 with two 7 3/8" barrels, both of which hold the ten ring at 50 yards using quality ammo.

Also if you have the Muzzle brake on the 7 3/8 barrel, you might want to switch to the false muzzle cap. It has been said here on the fourm, that you would get better accuracy with that, or even with nothing on the end.
I'm not good enough to tell the difference between the two.

Groups can vary a lot just from your technique. Even from sand bags. Are you using iron sights or a dot? I have shot sub 1" rested groups with dot at 50yds followed by 2.5" groups. Same gun. Same everything except technique farts. Old 41s get abused too. Have the barrel relined by Alex Hamilton.
