I just picked up a like new Md 63 no dash that is not a pinned gun. The SCSW indicates the pinned barrels stopped with the -1. Am I correct in assuming I have a late no dash and a very early non-pinned gun?

Well, that's interesting. My S&W book indicates the same thing - the pinned barrel ended with the -1 version. If you call S&W Customer Service and give them your serial number, they can give you the date your handgun was manufactured. That would solve the mystery.

Let us know what you find - good luck!

Yes I have a 63 no dash non-pinned also. I know the book says the -1 dropped the pinned barrel, but who knows. Mine came from 1982 with serial number M215XXX when they were in transition, so maybe they just hadn't started stamping the -1 yet.

Damn, I was wishing mine was the only one like it out there. SN M221xxx. I called Smith and was told 1982. Thanks all!

This is SN.M1772xx.

Maybe this will help narrow down when they stopped pinning.
