Picked up a no dash model 39 at local pawn shop today for 250. The hammer has been cut. I have saw 2 different styles. 1 with a hole and 1 without. Which one would this pistol have came with? Serial # is 35068. Also any input to year it may have been made would be appreciated.
Thanks

My no-dash 39 has a serial number quite close to yours (mine is 311xx) and it has the hole.

There are much better minds on the no-dash 39 guns than me but I think both hole and no-hole hammers appeared?

Your gun would have been assembled with one of the hammers with the hole, I believe. As to the manufacture date, the "A" prefix serial numbers began in 1970, so I'm guessing your gun was assembled in the late 60's. (Between 1966 and 1970)

Oops, I forgot my other comments. Helluva buy at that price and I believe my 311xx is somewhere near 1963 so I'd say yours is somewhere close to that.

Wow, unless I'm reading the info wrong, the Standard Catalog must be way off on this one. It says they started production in the mid-50's ( model 39) but were not assembled and sold until around 1966??

I think you are reading it wrong. The steel frames were produced early but not assembled and sold until the mid-1960s. Sales of the guns with alloy frames started in 1955.

The OP's gun probably shipped in 1962.

The first commercially released pre-39 Sn. 1001 was shipped Nov. 15, 1954
The last 39-2 shipped Sn. A747148 was shipped Feb. 15, 1983.
The steel frames were released in three Sn. ranges during the mid 1960s.
950 steel frames were made during the period of 1953 and placed in storage. Info relayed by the S&S Historian.
