What's the story on the brown plastic grips on the M39? Original or aftermarket? I ahve only seen the wood or black plastic on the M39.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for the pictures. Where did you find these grips? When S&W made the suppressed "Hush Puppy" pistols for the Navy SEALs, circa 1969, they used black nylon grips with molded checkering and S&W logo. IOW they looked like the molds had been made from standard wooden grips. Yours are similar buy I don't know why they are brown. Can you tell what kind of material they are? All things considered I think they are after-market and not a S&W product.
Dont 39 have an arch on the back and 59 are straight?
