Will existing conditions effect my ability to get it? I've had two heart attacks and advanced rheumatoid arthritis.

When William called us, he was skeptical. He had dealt with different agents in the past and most of them were high pressure salespeople who only seemed concerned about making a sale.

When William spoke with us, he was amazed that we never pressured him to do anything. We simply explained his options, compared some quotes from different companies and asked him what he wanted to do.

William thought about it for a few days and then called us back for help.

FAQ's About Medicare Supplement plans in Missouri
Q. Why is there such a big difference in the price between Medicare Supplemental plans in Missouri?

A. All Missouri Medicare Supplement plans are "Standardized". This simply means that all insurance companies offering a Medicare Supplement Plan F in Missouri have to offer exactly the same benefits. The only real difference is the price. Some insurance companies charge higher premiums than other companies for the same benefits. This is why it is so important to call us and let us help you compare your options.

Q. I Got a Letter from CMS saying that my coverage is being canceled (due for example to a Service Area Reduction)... What Should I Do?

A. If you received a letter from CMS or your plan telling you that your coverage is being dropped, you should call us immediately. We can compare all of the plans in your area and help you find the right coverage at the lowest possible price.

Please keep in mind that 2010 in Missouri is different than past years. There are many PFFS plans (Private Fee for Service Plans) that are being reduced or dropped (especially in rural areas).

You also should know that in 2010, the only "Open Enrollment" period will be from Nov. 15th - Dec. 31st. If you receive a letter on October 2nd, you will have what is called a "Special Election Period." In this case, you can enroll in a new plan beginning October 3rd- January 31st of 2011. Call us today for assistance. Call 1-877-763-3442.

Q. What are the best Missouri Medicare Supplement companies?

A. There are many insurance companies that serve Missouri. At Medicare National, we represent all of the major, reputable companies in Missouri. Give us a call today and allow us to help you compare companies and plans.

Q. Are Missouri Medigap Plans the same as Medicare Supplement?

A. Yes. Missouri Medicare Supplement plans are often called "Medigap" because these types of plans help to "fill in the gaps" left by Original Medicare.

Q. Can I be turned down because of a pre-existing medical condition?

A. If you are in a guaranteed issue period (i.e., you qualify for Medicare and are losing group benefits, or you are just turning 65, or you have been receiving disability benefits for 2 years), you can not be turned down for any reason, except End Stage Renal Disease (kidney failure). If that applies to you, then you will be covered by a different program.

Q. Will I be covered if I travel to another state?

A. If you choose a Medicare Supplement plan, you will have the freedom to go to any doctor or hospital that accept Medicare. With the right coverage, you may even be covered for emergencies while traveling in foreign countries.

You can get your Missouri coverage in a matter of minutes. Call and speak with one of our trusted advisers today.

Q. Are there Missouri Secure Horizons plans Available?

A. Secure Horizons does offer plans in various counties in Missouri. You can ask us about these plans when you call.

Q. Is Missouri Medicare Advantage the same as Missouri Medicare Gap Insurance?

A. No. Medicare Advantage insurance works "instead" of Medicare, whereas Medicare Supplemental Insurance Plans work "along side" of Medicare.

For example, there are many Missouri Medicare PPO Plans and HMO Plans. These plans provide medical services (usually within a plan network) and work in the place of your Medicare benefits (although you do NOT lose Medicare).

Q. What are Missouri Medicare Drug Plans (also known as a Prescription Drug Plan or PDP)?

A. A drug plan or PDP pays for part of the cost of your prescription medications. If you have a Medicare Supplement (also known as Medigap Coverage), you will probably want to buy a "stand alone" drug plan because Medigap plans do not have prescription drug coverage.

Some Medicare Advantage plans do combine your health care with a Prescription Drug Plan, so you might get them together.

Q. What is a Missouri Medigap Plan F?

A. The Medicare Supplement Plan F is a popular plan because it covers most of your costs associated with health care. It allows you to predict your costs so there aren't any surprises if you get sick.

Q. What is the Missouri Medigap Plan N?

A. The Plan N was introduced in 2010. It is often referred to as a "hybrid" type of Medicare Supplement policy. With the Plan N, you normally have a lower premium (compared for example to the Plan F) but you share more of the costs. For example, you pay the Part B annual deductible (currently $155) and a $20 - $30 copay when you go to your doctor.

I don't think so. Just before I turned 65 I was bombarded with ads for supplemental medicare insurance. I don't know how so many companys found out that I was ready for medicare. It was just a simple matter of checking rates and signing up with Mutual of Omaha. No exam needed.

As long as you enroll during the open enrollment period, your preexisting conditions are not a factor for getting Medicare Supplement coverage. I believe you are entitled to enroll for a period of 3 months prior to, and up to 6 months after your 65th birthday. That’s how I understand it as I have read about it. After the open enrollment periods is over, you can be denied coverage for preexisting conditions or charged higher than standard rates.

I agree about open enrollment.I just got a Medicare Supplimental policy[plan F] thru Mutual of Omaha for $95 a month-i had a stroke in 2008 and take 4 meds.Check with your ins.agent,etc.I'll be 67 in July. When you get an appointment be very honest with your answers.

Thanks guys. I was concerned because my Mother said she was denied supplement care because of pre-existing condition. She didn't mention whether she tried during open enrollment.
Thanks again.

You cannot be turned down (regardless of any pre-existing conditions) during the open enrollment period (when you first turn 65). However, if afterwards you cancel your policy and try to go with another company, say for a lower price, you will be subject to underwriting and could be turned down. Once you get a Med-Sup policy DON'T let it cancel UNTIL you have already been approved for the replacement policy!!! Hope this is helpful for you.

I am not on medicare but the lady that lives here only to keep me broke is and she has more illnesses than Las Vegas does casinos.

Medicare supplements MUST by law give you an opportunity to buya supplemental coverage policy and that policy CANNOT exclude any pre existing conditions IF:

1. You take out the supplemental within six months of you qualifying for medicare. This can be three months prior to getting medicare and three months after or which other combination of time you want.

2. You keep the payments up promptly and never let it lapse.

3. Once you drop it in favor of other plans such as Medicare Part D or such, you cannot get the pre existing conditions exclusions again.

Now for my story, this lady living only to keep me broke has four MAJOR and eventually terminal illnesses. I was spending over $30,000 a year on medical treatments until she became medicare eligible. Nobody told me about the pre existing illness clause and I found out within a month of losing it just by accident. I bought the best policy there is. It pays 100% of all hospital and doctor co-pays so I never have to pay a dr or hospital. That is a good thing. Medicine is limited a half pay and has a $3000 yearly limit after a $250 per year deductible. So once I spend $3250 per yr on medicine, I have to pay the total cost for the rest of the year. Last year I spent $11,470 on medication and the policy spent $3000. However I did not spend a dime on doctors, hospitals or other medical related illnesses and the policy spent over $50,000 so the $352 per month supplemental is a great thing for her. Spend just over $4000 a year, get $3000 in medicine and save $50,000 a yr in medical treatment cost. Works for me. I am saving a ton with the supplemental.
