Oddball is one of my favorite woods bummers:





It’s a gorgeous little M6 scout rifle made by TPS arms, chambered in .22 Long Rifle and .410 smoothbore shotgun.

I added an Aimpoint red dot and it is stunningly accurate with a variety of .22 ammo, and it features interchangeable chokes for the .410 and it patterns great.

At less than 5 lbs, it’s an absolute joy to carry and it folds in half to store in a day pack with ease. The Claw Slimline sling is a perfect match for it as well, featuring a rubberized pad that stays locked to the shoulder at all times.

It looks a little odd but it’s just an awesome, versatile, dead nuts reliable foraging or trail rifle. It’s a constant companion in the woods.

Did it come with interchangeable chokes? Because mine didn't.

I like the way you've done the Paracord wrap. I've seen people that wrap it around both barrels, and that has a tendency to pull point of impact.

How long does it take to get used to the "trigger"?

No time at all.

You always hear people telling newbies, "squeeze the trigger, don't pull it". That thing you squeeze it. You don't even have to think about it. It just feels natural.

I like the way you've done the Paracord wrap. I've seen people that wrap it around both barrels, and that has a tendency to pull point of impact.

It sure does lol! I originally wrapped both barrels then the POI for the .22 barrel raised several inches at 50 yards.

Wrapping just the bottom shotgun barrel gives plenty of traction (plus about 10 feet of spare paracord) and works great!

It took a little bit just to how unconventional it is.

I will say I have an original Springfield M6 and the trigger of the TPS is WAY better.

But now it’s absolutely second nature. I use my middle finger and can keep well under a 2” offhand group at 30 yards all day.

Mine came with a full choke which is all I ever use for a .410 as I mainly use it as a squirrel gun in the tall walnuts near me.

I believe it takes Rem chokes or another popular type!

Not knocking the .22/.410 combo. Assuming decent accuracy, the 357 might let you bring something larger down at a range greater than a 410 slug/buck shot.

Curious, can you elaborate on how the trigger/paddle works for you?

My best friend had a Springfield M-6 in 22 Hornet/410 fixed choke in the early to mid 80's. Accurate Hornet ammo was a problem back then. It was sold off as a great disappointment!

In the 90's, I started acquiring Savage model 24's. The 24C is 22RF/20-gauge (fixed choke) with 20" barrels and buttstock ammo storage. I also have a 357/20 and a 30-30/20 with 26" barrels.

I love 410, but as a survival gun, the only thing it has going for it is the small size. I carry my 24C in a soft case with 40 round of assorted 20-gauge ammo and a 100 pack of CCI Mini-Mags, a detachable scope, a cleaning kit, and a 1" sling. I have yet to need to survive using it, but have dispatched several raccoons, ground hogs, a few rabbits and a wounded deer along the road.

Any gun you like is your favorite survival gun!

Mine is not the Camper model [dash c] but a standard 22/20 gauge. I keep a backpack near it with a 500 pack of 22 lr hp, 50 rds of bird shot and 20 rifled slugs. Mine is older and chambered for 2 3/4" shells with a modified choke.
