Mel Gibson to write/direct Wild Bunch remake!

Just thinking about this made me vomit up a beer and a bag of Cheetos. Barely made it to the bathroom on time.

This would be like trying to remake Shane. Or High Noon. Or Unforgiven. Or even A Fistful of Dollars.

Mel Gibson? Ol' Bravefart himself? No. Just no.

Surely no one will be stupid enough to bankroll such an abomination. Sam Peckinpah and Warren Oates will rise from their graves and kill everyone they even suspect of being associated with something like this.

I tend to agree that remaking classics is a fool's errand.

That said, Gibson is writing and directing, which makes me wonder how far the story will diverge from the original. It could potentially be a Yojimbo/Fistful of Dollars situation where the basic story is morphed into a completely different setting, which might be good especially with Gibson directing.

I respect your opinion.

This forum isn't the place for me to get into Mel Gibson's well documented personal history of misogyny, prejudice, and hate.

In my opinion, personal/individual boycotts are a total waste of time, and the cause of useless Internet rants, but Mel Gibson and anything associated with him will never get one cent of my money.

If he gets this thing off the ground more power to him.
Can't help but wonder who he finds for a cast. Just a bit past their prime outlaws.
If he can avoid hackneyed and hokey plot lines it could be worth a watch.

I'm generally not a fan of "remakes" of movies.....that said, Mel Gibson has proven himself as a director and seems to have a flare for making good ones IMO. Some of his I enjoyed were of course Braveheart, but also, The Passion of Christ, Apocalypto, and most recently Hacksaw Ridge. If his remake is actually done I'll probably go and see it.

Clint Eastwood
Sam Elliott
Tom Selleck
Ed Harris
Robert Duvall
Kevin Costner

Need more? ;)

Looking back and remembering who was in his other movies...none of the main characters (except himself in Braveheart) were big time names at the time the movies were made. Just saying!!

Also not a fan of remakes. I do like Mel and his work. Just so hard to repeat perfection.
