I too can still smell them caps.

And, as I once said in this forum. I don't sell stuff and I don't loose stuff. Most got broken with hard use.

But these survived. Even as youngster wasn't much into nickeled guns. So I either painted or stripped mine.

And then there was the time I wanted to see what would happen if I laid a whole roll on the sidewalk and hit it with a ball peen hammer.....

I did that many, many times with my dad's hammer and on the curb. That was the beginning of my tinnitus.

My 2¢ worth.

As kids, we made torpedoes, using a large nut with a bolt screwed into ether end. Screw a bolt halfway into the nut, put a paper, or two cap in the nut, screw another bolt into the other end of the nut, snug it down against the caps, which completed the torpedo. The torpedo could then be thrown down against the end of ether bolt, and there would be a loud bang. This was great fun, until I got the bright idea to ad a pinch of gun powder to the mix. When that torpedo was thrown, you can't imagine the explosion that resulted. Although we searched, no part of that torpedo was ever found, and that ended our torpedo making. Somehow we survived those days of our youth. There seems to be a lot of truth in the old saying, 'God takes care of kids and fools'.
