I live in Pueblo, Colorado. We are under almost complete shut-down orders, no dining in restaurants, no bars open, private clubs shut down, basically all the usual diversions in life have been forbidden. Reruns of "Gunsmoke" and "Mayberry RFD" have become repetitive. The news programs are less than entertaining.

Old buddy of mine, a single guy I regularly saw over the years at the club for beers and poker games, has been stuck in "assisted living" for the past several months. His son and daughter have pretty much shut him down, cleaned out his house, sold off his vehicles, and seldom do anything with him or for him. I try to visit by phone every few days, run an errand as needed, share a joke.

The next county over is under different restrictions, and the VFW post there remains open (subject to occupancy limitations, "social distancing" guidelines, etc, but still functioning). Picked up my buddy today, drove 30 miles and spent a couple of hours sitting on an open air patio enjoying a couple of beers together. Then I took him home.

For the nit-picking types, I have tested negative and my buddy in assisted living is tested twice weekly, also negative. Not a high-risk escape from virus hell for either of us.

Of course, my buddy forgot his wallet. He also likes the high-priced stuff and ran out of cigarettes on the way there.

He hasn't changed a bit!

Merry Christmas, Giovanni Luigi!
