Met the POTUS today

It does speak volumes to put aside any emotions and respect the office, even if the man who holds it does not. Bravo!

The green Osprey is pretty neat....all ours down here are grey, and shake my )*&&^ windows out of their frames.... stupid flying eggbeaters....

It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Congratulations Faulkner. A day you will always remember.

It's always a thrill meeting a President no matter what your politics are. I met Gerald Ford at the Great Falls in Paterson NJ when he dedicated it as an historic landmark and Jimmy Carter in NYC when he was there for a Habitat house building. I think everybody here respects the office even if you disagree with the occupant.

I think this thread serves to underscore the importance of Maintaining respect for the office of Presidency, without regard to the politics of the current holder of the office or your own politics.

Presidents will come and go but the office is bigger than any one POTUS and more vital to our nation and more permanent a fixture in our way of life.

I know it's easy to be unhappy when our team is not at bat but things have a way of coming around. It's like a giant long term pendulum swing. It's the reason our society has endured and will continue to do so.

I like to think that no matter matter what the problems are there is always hope for the future because there is always the opportunity to find a better way of doing things.

God Bless America!

I remmber meeting Pres Ford when he flew into the CC Intl Airport back in the early 70s.I remember that he stumbled but didnt fall,as he was walking down the ladder. In the late 80s or maybe 1990? i met Pres Bush Sr when he was in Kingsville giving a Commencement speech at Texas A&I university. After the sppeh, they drove around town and happened to head down my street on their way back to NAS Kingsville, where AF 1 was. They dove right past my house and both sides of the street from one end to the othe-had people lined upto get a glimpse. I got tobriefly shake hands with him as they passed. Imean, EVERYONE wanted to touch the Pres :-))

I never met Bush Jr but, when i was in Austin--does it count that from a distance-I saw the current Pres and all their vehices heading somewhere.:-))

I almost forgot, I did get to touch Pres Fords han. I was all of 6 at the time-and it was a thrilling experience.

Almost forgot part 2, I almost got to meet Lady Bird Johnson when touring their ranch bak in early 90s when we were there. I almost met her when i was trying t find a bathroom--took a wrong turn, and found myself looking at some of her security. They were nice about it but told me that using the restroom as an excuse--would NOT get me in to see lady Bird. :-))

Well, I saw JFK in a motorcade whizzing down Henry Clay Ave in New Orleans-I was surprised that his hair had so much red in it. Dad found out I went and yelled at mom. Dad wasn't much of a Kennedy man :D
Other than that the only other thing that approached it was Governor (he was ex governor by then) Foster came in to my office to get something notarized. And yes, I charged him:D

You conducted yourself with dignity and honor. I would not have been willing or able to do that.

Falkner, you are a better man than I.

Having worked for the Air Force for a long time, I've been in a position to meet several leaders. Never a president though.

I respect the office. Even so, I don't think I could have shook his hand. At least not done that and smiled.

George Bush Jr. Waved at me* when his motorcade passed on the way from the local Air Guard base to the U of Portland where he was making a speech.

* Well, it COULD have been me he was waving at.

Well done, Faulkner.
I hope the area can recover quickly from the grief and the effects.

I feared we would eventually get comments on the President and not the event you have related to us.
It went well yesterday, so I left this open.
As I suspected, some can't resist commenting on the man and not just the event.
Of course their comments will inspire others to comment further, so, regrettably, we are done here.
