Metal wax recommendations

I clean my S&W firearms with Break Free, I use Kroil for lubrication and bronze wool (lightly) as necessary. What do you recommend for a metal wax for a protective finish?
I use Murphy's Oil Soap to clean my stocks, finish and polish with Johnson's Floor Wax paste. Always careful to do nothing to the inside of the stocks. Any other suggestions?

You'd be better off using Kroil for cleaning and CLP for lubrication. Kroil is a penetrant, not a lubricant. I find CLP to be less than ideal for cleaning, but at least it doesn't remove the newer S&W finishes.

Renwax is a good wax for protecting metal, HOWEVER (IMHO) NOT as good as a traditional rust preventative made for firearms. Why you may ask?? Because Renwax can be dissolved by petroleum distillates and presuming you have any oil or solvent either inside that may weep out or trace amounts left over, your Renwax coverage may not be total.

The other reason I for one do not use Renwax on firearms is that it is simply too much trouble to clean off all the oil every time the gun is cleaned prior to applying Renwax. I just wipe down the exterior of the gun with an oily patch and place it in the V-paper.

I suppose if you have the patience to wipe off all traces of oil and or solvent, then the Renwax might work well, but I don't. If you have a "Safe Queen" that never gets shot that might be a different story - however I'd STILL suggest using some sort of rust preventative inside - even on a gun that never really gets shot.

I do own a can of Renwax but use it mainly on furniture and other metal objects around the house that don't get contaminated with oils and solvents.

Someone a few years back did a extensive test of rust preventatives and lubricants, and the winner was Frog Lube. Much better than wax or CLP, better even than a dedicated rust preventative product. Hornedy One Shot come in second overall. Neat article
