Looking for recommendations for a cupped end punch / punch set to remove barrel pin on S&W N-Frame. I was advised to use only cupped end punch. Seems Brownell's is the only vendor I can find who sells them. Any other recommendations or someone have a set to sell? Thanks!

Yea years ago when I had a C & R I qualified for the Brownells "FFL" discount. Was pretty substantial off the list price. I got a set of those punches and also the ones for roll pins with the little point in the middle that fit in the roll pin center. Among other things I got the Brownells gun screwdriver set. These items were quality items and worth the price. A recent gun magazine had a picture of a round pin that someone tried to beat out with a flat tip punch and gouged up the gun when it slipped.

Another vote for the Brownells cup tip punches. I've also found that lining up the punch and pin is easier with a magnified visor….but that may just be because I'm old.

You need a 1/16" Cup punch for the .070" pin. S&W barrel pins are often not very tight and sometimes can be simply pushed out. Try this first before buying a cup punch.

There are NO tapered pins in any S&W revolver, they are all perfectly straight and can be installed/removed from either side although common practice is in-R to L, out-L to R.

The big question is why do you want to remove the barrel pin? Do you have the proper tools or skill to remove the barrel? This is the only reason for removing the pin.

Brownell's does have them and they are not all that expensive. I would suggest just getting a set. You can try Midway USA also.
