I have recently discovered N320 powder and really enjoy shooting it. However, I am less pleased loading it using my Redding powder measure.

I’ve seen comments where it “meters like water”. I wish it did but In my powder measure each throw is bit of a grind. Some more, some less. My results seem fairly consistent but getting the cartridges loaded is always a bit of a struggle. Alliant Sport Pistol meters like water for me, but not so much with N320.

Am I doing something wrong? When the powder measure is empty and cleaned out the throw lever is smooth as butter but as soon as I load N320 it starts to feel like I’m cutting through the powder on each throw. Maybe it’s the nature of the powder in my powder measure but I would be a whole lot happier if there was a way to throw each powder charge much more smoothly.

Thank you.

I am also quite happy with N320.

I do notice N320 crunching in a Redding measure. In fact, I find that every stick powder gives me a crunchy feeling going through my Redding. Despite the crunching, however, the N320 charge weights are quite consistent.

When I put N320 through my Dillon powder measure I don't notice any crunching, and the charges are just as consistent.

Barkbark,

Thanks for the feedback (feedbark? Lol!). As much as I load I may take a look at a Dillon power measure.

Peace.

My redding powder measure does the same thing with N320, H4350 or any extruded powder. It is just an annoyance that doesn't seem to affect throw weight much at all.

I use N320 for the 40 S&W, on my Dillon Square Deal B. No issues at all with the measuring on the Dillon.

If we're talking about good powder measures look at the Lyman #55. It's an excellent measure.

Hmmmmmm,, a Dillon measure is messy,,
unless it is mounted on a Dillon press,
THEN,, you got the best!!

(In other words, the Dillon powder measure is not a "stand alone") :D

I would suggest you purchase the RCBS Competition Powder Measure. I purchased mine after I found the Lee (NOT) Perfect Powder Measure will jam solid with H110 and leaked a lot with Accurate #5. The Competition comes with two Drums, one for Handgun Charges and One for Large Rifle charges. They also meter well with the finest grain powders on the planet, medium grain sizes such as N320 and extruded powders such as Varget.

Normal for stick powders.

You are correct. I looked at their website and came to the very same conclusion. 👍
