Method of Suppressing 15-22

Telero: Form 3's are running about 4-8 weeks depending on the area. I will post photo's when I get it and shoot it. It will be a shop demo. Be Safe,

4's are going at 6 months and more.........with a trust!!!!! You can do a form 1 online so i heard now.

Dealers/SOTs can do most forms online now I think. Trusts can do form 1 online, but not individuals -- still need to send in CLEO signature and fingerprints.

Online forms may reduce time by a few weeks for now. The backlog for getting paper forms entered into the database is about that long, and by submitting electronically, that step gets skipped. Once (if) they get to the point that dealer transfers and manufacturers get essentially auto approved, that will help a lot with the overall backlog...assuming most dealers and manufacturers use the e-forms.

don't understand how a trust/llc can take that long when there is nothing to investigate? Job security is suppose.

Backlog. More transfers with the same amount of people processing them. Also, time spent on forms provided with trusts/corps is used to make sure the supporting documentation appears valid rather than being used for doing a background check, so it may not really even save any time at all. Worst case scenario is that it actually adds time to the transfer.

What would really be most effective would drop the forms entirely, have a buyer fill out 4473, do NICS , make it a AOW ( any other weapon ) charge 5$ and have it done instantly. Considering we are waiting 8 mo+ for a tube with a hole in it, and if you can own a handgun you can own a suppressor where legal. I really believe that the people that are purchasing are doing so for hearing protection,. If it is for an illegal purpose I would think an unregistered " potato " would prob be used!! Be Safe,

That would be an OK intermediate step, but paying a tax and waiting a year for hearing protection and noise pollution control is ridiculous.

to save money, say like my hospital, we farm out transcription. the ATFE should at least sub contract the scanning or whatever "non essential" paperwork to a company, save the actual approvals for the examiners. either that or hire more examiners, you would think that the volume of applications would warrant another FTE (full time employee) or 2.

but that's the gov. they don't want us to have them so take your time. i called yesterday, at least the operators are friendly. i always try to make a light joke when talking to them, but they can't give any more info than when it went pending, approved and that's about it.

pretty inefficient....wait did i actually say that?

i would ASSUME a form 3 would go faster, but then again lets look at who we are talking about now.

as for the trust stuff, i don't mind having my wife/daughter fingerprinted and background checked. doesn't cost me anything..yet..but the rest of the grandkids have 'until they reach legal age' stipulations so they can't be mugged and printed.

i'm sure everything will be grandfathered otherwise they would have a riot on their hands. going forward if/when it passes, if i need another i'll just go individual. it's not a big deal really, it's just so my kin don't have to pay the tax again after i croak, not a way to get around buying one illegally, just saving money in the very long run.

AS an update: Form 3's are taking approx 90 days, Form was submitted 8/12/2013, pending on 8/28/2013. The upper was sent and is prob already done. Will post photos, possibly a video, Hopefully sooner than later!! Be Safe,

JM: I received MY IASW today 11/04/2013, so just about 3 months, for dealer. I thought my 15-22 with Liberty Kodiak TL was quiet--- It is just like their video, no noise except for the action, with Federal 36 gr high velocity, Very,Very sweet. Photos to follow, I had to go out and shoot it first!!!! Be Safe,

Jonnie,

I think you should listen to your instincts. You already have one of the best .22 rifles and suppressors. Just Form 1 SBR it a 4.5" and use the Sparrow.

I've owned 2 integrals and rarely shot them as they are a PITA to maintain. No integral design will be as easy to clean as the Sparrow.

Wait times are crazy now. If you send send it out to IA for an integral, it will be gone for 8 months, 1 year if IA is not in your state. A F1 SBR is just as long but you can still shoot it with the longer barrel while waiting on the F1. I really like my 15-22 SBR, 4.5" barrel and Sparrow and recommend the combo.

Have fun with what ever you decide. Please share a picture (even though you don't want to brag) as it helps others with these conundrums. There's no substitute for experience.

Matt
Matt/JM I have cleaned my IA and it is not a PITA. It is 30.20" with stock collapsed, it is as accurate as my standard 15-22 with standard ammo. It is significantly quieter than the 15-22 with a sparrow, Kodiak, with standard or sub sonic ammo. I have shot it in an enclosed room, you hear the bullet hit, and the action, that is with fed 36 gr HV. I had my doubts that it could be as quiet as the video, BUT it is. JM: You would only be with out your gun for 7-15 days, it takes them 1 wk at this time to do the work, if you add 1 wk for shipping both ways = 14 days. They started paperwork on mine and I did send it early but I had other 15-22's to shoot with the external cans. Stamp wise only for the suppressor, no SBR. I believe you can travel to legal states with a suppressor with out notifying ATF, but I believe you must notify them with a SBR? MATT would know better or check ATF site. I did not want a pistol with a stock, though the barrel is only 10" long but out to 50 yds accuracy is the same as 16" in my hands/ factory trigger. If I am shooting past 50 I will go with a center fire. I took some photos but have not been able to get them on. Be Safe,

Viper, glad to hear your enjoying that IA integral. I am probably going to get one for myself once I stop spending money on other things. So, sometime next year I will most likely order one. Only downside is having to wait 8+ months to get my hands on it after I shell out the money, but I have yet to regret it at all once I do finally get a new can.

Why not just get a fake can and just use sub sonic ammo? I've used both and it cant tell the difference :)

then you are half deaf anyway if you can't tell a difference. quite a bit of db reduction with a real can and SS or normal velocity. Maybe you were using CB Longs which only have the primer, no powder.
