Microsoft update

I still get updates for my Win 7 machine (but I can control when to install them), so I'm not sure what's the point of this post.

Another annoyance - I tend to loose certain default file extension associations after almost every time I get an update in Win10. No matter how many times they will try to push it, I won't use Microsoft Groove as my media player.

Eventually, MS will abandon Win 7 and 8, as they have done all their past operating systems. Software writers and hardware manufacturers will do the same. That is the point of the post. Depending on your computer usage, this may or may not be a problem. After all, there are still people using Win 95 though MS abandoned it long ago.

I have a buddy that does IT for .gov and he is considering leaving to stock shelves at Home Depot if .gov goes to Win 10.

I used to work for a gov't agency. 3000 people total.

We worked in an engineering division and had special needs. Every time we got an "upgrade" all of our engineering software had to be reloaded. Sometimes it wouldn't run because it wasn't compatible with the new OS. The last 5 years I worked there I think I spent more time dealing with software issues than actually doing the job I was hired to do. The upgrades came whether we wanted them or not. I had two computers, one for the upgrade and one that ran an older version of windows.

We all avoided the upgrades as long as we could so we could be productive. There was one IT person assigned to our work group of 15 just to manage our special needs. Mostly he was fighting a losing battle.

Our servers were always being targeted by hackers. I remember our office staff would just go home on vacation because of system shut downs. I remember once they were down for 2 days. I made a habit of not connecting any of my computers to our network for fear of a virus. Kind of reminded me of the Borg.

I moved all my data through a google account.
