Might be heresy - but this is what I am considering

OK, recently got my first S&W revolver, a 13-2 which shoots wonderfully. It is my go to gun for fun at the range. After getting it, I put a model 65 with a 4" barrel on lay-away, simply because it was such a good looking revolver and in good shape.
But....I might....Ask the store to take my money I have put down on it and get them to order me a M&P 40C. I have been wanting a compact automatic in a service caliber. I have been interested in the .40 cal round and this gun has the nice feature of simply swapping out barrels and I can turn it into a 9 mm or .357 sig (may have to change mags for the 9 mm).
This is just a thought bouncing around in the skull of mine and there is usually a lot of room for it to really get bouncing.
I had nearly purchased a M&P 9C a few years ago and instead purchased a CZ 7050 (which ended up being pretty useless for me to carry, but plenty fun to shoot). It eventually, through a few trades became a 9mm Taurus 1911 (which is a very fun pistol to shoot and very dependable).
With a good rugged revolver capable of handing .357, I am not sure why I am wanting is very near kin the model 65, other than for looks.
Tell me why this is not a good idea. Please.
Odds are I won't go through with this plan, but it sure has me thinking....

Buy the 65.

Then buy the 40c.

Easy.

I did the same thing:

I'm with Bob. Buy the 65!!! The only regret you will ever have is if you sell it.

Regards

Oh no...

Buy the 65! Then shoot the compac first, rent it out or shoot a friends, to even see if you like it. You just might save yourself some money.

There will be more of the compacts. There is a limited number of nice 65 out there.

Both are good guns. I don't have a 65---but I'd like to. I do Have the M&P40C and it is a good but , for me , unexciting gun...I get a lot more fun from shooting my 19-5. FWIW, I think the "Get the 65 now and the 40c later" is pretty good advice. Of course it is quite impossible to have too many handguns.

The Model 65 and the Model 13-2 complement each other. They both work exactly the same way, and they both use the same ammunition. If one gets taken as evidence for whatever reason, you have a replacement immediately available.

That's practical man talking.:D

Like others have stated, the plastic M&P40C will be available any time, and it ISN'T a revolver so who cares?

That's revolver guy talking.:D

Get the Model 65 now and the M&P40C later.:)

That's accumulator (as opposed to collector) guy talking.:D

Interesting...

Never having owned a K frame in my 30+ years of revolver shooting, I recently walked down a similar path.

I bought a square butt 4" 13-3 and due to the 30 day wait for consignment guns here in the PRC, I could only look at the pictures I took and the receipt.

During that time I found another, a RB 3" 65-5 - the vaunted Ladysmith. :)

Since the 65 was a PPT (private party transfer) I could take it home in 10 days.

So last Friday I took possession of the 65 and today I took possession of the 13. For the same gun in different metal, these two are night and day! One is a target gun and the other is a CCW.

In any event, both have butter smooth actions! Try THAT with the M&P.

Get the revolver, leave the canoli.

I refinished a set of my Ahrends smooth front tacticals. I wanted a darker red.

The practical side of me says get the M&P - I have limited funds for things that go bang, so getting the M&P would add something to my assortment (as someone else said, "I am an accumulator not a collector.").
But a S&W revolver of this quality at this price is probably becoming more scarce. So I won't give the option of switching to the M&P any more thought. I'll pack my Bersa or my Tomcat or my Colt Agent for concealed carry.
I have seen the light.
Gotta love The Godfather quote
