Military and USMC markings

On GB is a listing for a M1917 Colt marked USMC. I had always thought most USMC firearms of the era were marked some variation of USN. Were Marine markings common? I will apologize in advance for using the C four letter word and using USMC and USN in the same sentence.

Don't know about M 1917s marked USMC, but there was a special version of the M 1909 in 45 Colt for the USMC: had checkered grips and a semi birdshead grip. It was marked USMC.

I have never read where any Model 1917s, Colt or S&W were USMC marked.

Lot of fakes out there because Marine marked stuff brings more bucks because it was our smallest service. (Not counting the Coast Guard, of course. Didn't want to think I was discounting you guys.)
