Military gets 40% off the purchase of one gun

Think I'm in love.....

Just got back from my dealer's shop and had a nice long look at my new Model 41. She is a beauty!! Felt so good in my hand and I am most happy. Filled out some ATF and state paperwork and now I just gotta wait for background checks to get cleared.

I'm really glad I happened to stumble upon this program for military and LE personnel.

Sounds good man, now if it's just not the normal temperamental rim fire semi auto that's so ammo finicky. Rim fire auto's be it rifle or pistol are so spotty on reliability these days thanks a lot of poor quality control ammo being made my most companies.

That is one reason I decided to go with my 610-3 with 4" barrel, that and the fact I got 5 22 automatic's already the 610 4" will be the third 610 and one I can use as HD unlike my "rare" 610 5" model. I consider my 610-3 6.5" a range gun and would not want any more then 4" or 5" barrel for woods carry.

I've read with interest about the 40% off program- I think it's a wonderful way to honor the military personnel serving their country.

Now here's a question- what about allies, specifically Canadians? Particularly today, many Canadians are serving in Afghanistan in combat roles.

Some of the other firearm makers give special rates or make special models available to Canadian personnel. It would be great if S&W would consider it too- there wouldn't be a lot of firearms involved, and hence it wouldn't be a bit hit to S&W's profits, but the public relations benefit could be substantial.

I guess I wouldn't have any issues here but the number of Candians who are actually fighting in the sandbox is tiny. By comparison with our troop numbers, the Brits, the second largest contributor's forces are miniscule.

It's really a farce to call the sandbox a NATO operation, we supply 90% of the combat troops, virtually all the airlift and combat aircraft. Don

I have no problem with allied military and LE personnel participating in this program. I'd say that they have just as much right to it as we do. Also, I went back and reviewed the application form for this program and notice that it does not distinguish or require U. S. military or LE participation. I could be wrong, but suspect S&W would honor an application from an ally. Their money is as good (maybe better) as ours. Perhaps a phone call or email to S&W would clear up the matter and confirm eligibility for the next go-around.

I did give S&W a call and the guy I talked to seemed shocked at the idea of giving it to anyone other than U.S. Military. But it's nice to think that the military contributions and sacrifices other countries make ARE recognized.

I'd sent S&W an email a few days ago when I learned of this program- still haven't got a response. But will follow up.

S&W WON'T extend 'military discount' to allied forces

Guess I'm not surprised.... but it would've been a nice gesture.

Dear Ms Piquette:

Thanks for your response to my inquiry.

I've perused your website: I guess the current promotion is "Nation's finest", with free magazines or discounts on certain firearms.

Nation's Finest - Smith & Wesson

Any thought of extending THIS promotion to allied forces?

Thanks again,

Richard

Subject: Would Smith&Wesson consider extending its armed forces discount to Canadian military?

Dear Ms Piquette:

I've known for some time that S&W offers a substantial discount for U.S. Armed Forces, veterans, and service personnel.

After talking to a representative at S&W's call centre, it is my understanding that this does not extend to the armed forces of Allies. Is it possible that this policy could be reconsidered, to recognize and honour the sacrifices of Allied service personnel, not just Americans?

Within my own family, there is a history both of military service AND use of S&W products.

As a paratrooper with Polish forces under British command, my father parachuted into Holland as part of Market-Garden (immortalized in "A Bridge too Far"), carrying an S&W revolver as backup to his Bren gun. He continued to carry it until he left the army, following Occupation service in Germany.

While in university, and as an officer in the Canadian Forces, I became proficient with handguns practicing with S&W 41s.

And as I am sure you are aware, Canadian forces are currently serving with distinction in Afghanistan alongside Americans.

Other manufacturers (xxxx and yyy come to mind) acknowledge Canadian service by offering Canadians the same sort of discount that American military ypersonnel receive.

Currently, I myself am shopping for a personal firearm. I would far sooner purchase an S&W than one of these other brands. However, financial factors are a consideration and I find myself wishing that S&W's policy acknowledged my military service.

I'm certain that I'm not the only potential customer who feels this way.

So I'll ask: Would S&W consider modifying its policy to honour American brothers-in-arms, not just Americans?

Thanks for your attention to this email- I look forward to your response.

Regards,

Richard

Sorry to read that S&W wouldn't extend their discount policy to you and other allied personnel. I really enjoyed reading your email and definitely believe it was worthy of consideration. For what it's worth....I salute you and your father's service.

Thank you.

I didn't do much... but my dad was called into service when Poland was invaded. He was captured, escaped, made his way to France where he fought until France collapsed.

He was in Vichy France until the Underground told him and other foreign workers that they would be rounded up and sent to work camps in Germany.

So he crossed the Pyrennes into Spain... where he was interned until the camp went on a hunger strike.

Rather than have 100s starve to death, Spain quietly released them to the British.

He went by convoy to England, and ended up joining the First Polish Parachute Brigade. He jumped into Holland as mentioned, and fought there.

He never talked much about his service... just did what he had to do. Passed away Nov 13 2008... and it still hurts.

Thanks again for your kind words.

Richard

The original post was from 2009 and is no longer offered. If you google S&W military discount they have a $30 rebate for revolvers $50 for M&P pistols and I think $100 for M&P long guns.

I read through the first few posts and was getting my hopes up. Oh well, at least there is still a rebate.

There is that....and along with the rebate you get a nice service appreciation letter and a S&W coin. If that means anything to you...kinda did to me.

Just last summer it was $50 for the revolver or pistol. Good to see their tossing in a letter and coin along with the $30 now.
