Much to my surprise, I'm awaiting an M&P 5.7, my first gun of any type with a threaded barrel. Since they're reputed to be loud, I've been struck by an idea, unimpeded by the thought process.

I don't want a muzzle brake or a suppressor. I wonder if a small, thin steel tube about 3 & 1/2" long would make a noticeable difference. It shouldn't cost a million dollars to have a short, straight tube inside threaded to try out the idea, but I know as much about machining as I do acoustics - as near zero as probability allows. I'm aware that a much longer tube would be needed for serious sound attenuation, but that's not really what I'm going for.

Any thoughts by the knowledgeable types? Of course this is the internet, so random wackos are free to join in. That's how I got here. :) This is just a fun gun for me, I find the operating system very intriguing. I don't want to materially affect the amount of weight at the front of the gun.
