Around here, the left lane has become the designated dump truck lane. Not unusual to see them 3 abreast. When they merge onto the highway, right to the left lane they go, not even close to being up to speed
If the highway department would keep the right lane in better shape, I wouldn't be tempted to drive in the left.
There is a stretch of highway and a time of day that I will drive in the left lane unless somebody is gaining on me. An extra eight feet away from the shoulder and deer, dogs, coyotes, and cows is valuable.
That is known as a "brake check" and there are ample dashcam videos of it leading to wrecks and fights.I've often thought about getting in front of lefties, and slowing down,
Their mindset is "I'm going fast enough! No one needs to go any faster!"
If I am doing the speed limit, why does it matter which lane I am in and why do you need to pass me?

Mostly because they are selfish, inconsiderate arse-wipes. They're comfortable where they're at and they really don't give a fat crap about anyone else. Why do dome drivers insist on sitting in the fast lane, forcing everyone to pass on the right - especially on the interstate outside of city limits? Why?
Theoretically true, but in reality I have NEVER seen anyone pulled over for that reason. In Fl you can get a ticket for going slow in the left lane.
In other words, they think it is their job to force everyone else in the world to do things their way. Probably liberals!Their mindset is "I'm going fast enough! No one needs to go any faster!"
I call it DWO -- driving while oblivious. If it was a real offense, I think at least a third of the drivers on the road would be guilty. Most people are just oblivious to anything outside their car, or anything further in front of them than their front bumper.
There is a popular Sheriff out west that has a youTube channel and all he films is him pulling people over for left lane camping. I think Interstate 40 runs through his county.I used to stop folks for that when I had time. They were amazingly ignorant about the law (in many ways). About the only one I gave a warning is the one whose kid to him I would likely stop him. I preferred nights and some number of these folks were impaired. Most were just stupid. The majority of them offered me the opportunity to use all three violations possible on one ticket. I took it.
Yeah, I doubt he and I could be friends....I don't mind passive, and I can deal with aggressive...But when you combine the two qualities, it can be challenging. My step brother was very passive aggressive about this. He would sit in the left lane and act oblivious. He knew full well he was pissing people off and enjoyed it. Not one of his better qualities.
Not sure I'd call it a first world problem. There are safety issues involved when you have this highway speed blood clot rolling along just one good catastrophic failure away from a multi vehicle pile of twisted metal and injuries.Drive right, pass left! it's a foreign concept, apparently.

Two vehicles pacing each other with a two lanes of traffic behind them and wide open road in front. I mean, seriously!!! Move over to the driving lane, and let faster traffic pass instead of forcing folks to pass on the right! Then, when you pass them on the right, they don't take the hint - especially when 10 or more vehicles roar by and some give them the bird. I don't understand.
Anyway, 1st world problem...
