Mini Red Dot for M41?

I have a drilled and tapped M41 which currently has a Weaver #62 base on it, but I want to downsize the scope to a mini (or, micro red dot).

The only requirement is that I retain the M41 rear sight, so, not looking for anything using a dovetail mount.

I'm out of touch with Docter, JPoint, Burris, etc. since I have ignored that market for several years.

BTW, intended use will not be bullseye, but rather field and plinking...

Suggestions?

I have used the Docter and a C-More Railway on a Weaver base. The C-More Railway is slightly larger but very rugged - neither sight is click adjustable for windage or elevation. If you want click adjustable sights you will have to opt for one of the tube type red dots - I have used the Leupold-Gilmore, Ultra Dot, and the old Tasco ProPoint2BD.

Let me explain a little more...I just had my M41 barrel converted to a vent-rib configuration...had been using a Weaver #62 base which will still work, but it obscures most of the vent rib, so it's functional, but ugly.

So, I'm looking for a short red dot that will mount using only the two rearmost tapped holes on the barrel, while retaining the rear sight.

Ideas?

I guess what you are suggesting is a standard Weaver accessory rail made for a drilled and tapped Model 41 barrel, but cut down in size? If so, the Burris FastFire III is a good compact and lightweight red-dot. You can read about them here:

If you like a tube-type sight, the Bushnell TRS-25 is a good, very compact and lightweight dot, with an integral mount. You can read about them here:

I'm leaning towards the Burris FastFire, I think. There are still FF IIs out there, don't know what advantage the FF IIIs offer above that...I'm certainly willing to perform surgery on the Weaver #62...have done that before on a Browning rifle...

Is the Burris FastFire III worth the difference over the FF II?

Also, if I shorten the Weaver #62, I guess it will have to be spray-painted or re-anodized. Wish someone made a short mount for the M41.

I just fitted a Fastfire 3 to my Model 41, using a method suggested by a fellow member here NCTexan. The mount you need is a weaver 46 #48046 which has the same profile as the 62 but is much shorter. It only uses 2 of the mounting screws. It needs to be shortened slightly at the end that faces the rear sight, but it is so little that i did this with a file. Lastly, a hole need to be drilled in the plate so it matches the holes on the barrel. I got a friend of mine to do this and it fits perfect.

If you just want to try one without breaking the bank, Primary Arms sells a good quality micro dot.
I've owned a couple, and they've always worked well and help up to, at least, AR15 recoil.

That looks very nice, and gets the FastFire closer to the rear sight than a shortened Weaver #62 would.

I assume from your description that the holes are not the correct spacing?

Yes Karl, the hole on the right of the image above is OK but you need to drill one near the picatinny slot to match. it's not a big job and the mounts are only $4 each if you mess up.

Thanks. Maybe I'll go that route and use paint to cover the shortened end.

Karl, the shortened end will fit right up to the front of the rear sight and only a tiny bit is visible. When the Fastfire is fitted, you cant see it at all.

Great, I like that look better than the shortened #62, thank you for the suggestion.

I have a drill press, and on a good day, can actually drill an accurate hole and countersink it...

BTW, I just had my M41 barrel converted to vent-rib configuration by "Eric" at EWK Arms...inexpensive and very high quality CNC milling.

Next task will be to get the entire M41 hard-chromed, then a Burris FastFire on it...saving my pennies to complete the project.

I have a weaver rail on my model 41, but would like to change it to a picatinny. Does anyone know who sells an interchangeable one, or is there a 'better' option?
