Mini Red Dot Sight Advice.

Never used one of the small red dots. Always was interested in a Leupold Deltapoint Pro. Made 10 minutes from my house. I know several people who work there. Good company.
I actually bought one of these years ago and it's given me nothing but excellent service. First on a .40S&W Sig and then on a 1911.
Yes it's expensive. Yes, the injury is further compounded by the lack of mounting hardware so I had to buy a kit to mount it.
I've spent more money on dumber things.

Shim on Vortex

I had the elevation problem when I mounted a 6moa Venom I bought used on my 617. Got the delrin shim (can't remember the manufacturer, but it was on Amazon), and it fixed right up. I've been very pleased. As a side note, I contacted Vortex about buying a cover for the sight as I received mine without one. They shipped it for free. Great service. Oh, and another thing. The mounting screws provided had different threads than what was needed on the Alchin mount I bought for it. I contacted Alchin and he sent two screws out right away, also free of charge.

I have a Holosun 407c-GR on my M&P 2.0
2 MOA dot
Battery and Solar powered.
"Shake Awake" means you never have to fumble around for the right button to turn it on.

I have the Holosun HS507-C and really like it. First it has a motion sensor, so it automatically turns on when you pick up the gun. Equally important is when you put the gun away, and motion stops, it turns itself off, saving battery life. Also has back up solar power.

Glad to hear all the positive comments on the Vortex Venom.

Ordered one and a dovetail mounting base for my Ruger MKIV 22/45.

Tracking says it will be here Monday.

I was planning on buying a Weigand WEIG-A-TINNY Scope Mount for my Model 586 so that a red dot sight could be installed onto it. Can anyone recommend a good quality sight? Based on so many of the online reviews I've encountered, it seems that none of them are worth it, regardless of the price. One shooter commented that the technology has not yet caught up with the concept!

This is going to be a range gun only and will not be used for any competitive events. I strictly run .38 Special ammo in this six inch-barreled handgun, shooting on a nice 25 yard indoor range. .

I don't know who wrote the review you read but based on my experience on using several Burris Fastfire IIIs and Vortex Venoms in the past few years I'd say the technology works pretty well.

I've been shooting handguns since the late 1980s but like you I arrived at the point where achieving a proper sight picture with open sights was very difficult.

I installed a Burris Fastfire III with Raptor mount on my 586-4 a few years ago and the first cylinder full at 50 yards was best ever with any Smith revolver!

I have a Burris on a 1911 and a Taurus 22lr revolver too. A Vortex Venom on a 617 , Glock 34 9mm and a pair of Ruger MKII series 22 pistols. I did have one Venom that got close to running out of elevation , sent it back and was promptly sent a brand new sealed box replacement. As a plus the Vortex Venom and Burris Fastfire III can do not require sight removal to replace the battery and have lifetime warranties.

I too have astigmatism and find that using a stick on aperture on my glasses greatly improves the clarity of the dot. Some bullseye shooter using a mechanical aperture device , I have one of these as well.

I've been satisfied with the 3 I have. First was a vortex venom I've tried it on everything from a Ruger 22/45 to a S&W 460. It's been on a Walter PPQ for a while now. I bought a cheap $100 tru glo for my 929 and it's worked out well. Just got a Sig Romeo Zero for a P365 and happy with it. All have to be removed to change the battery but that doesn't bother me too much.

As a couple others have noted, I second the allchin mount highly. Great quality, and I learned about it from this forum so gave it a shot. Very pleased. Any picatinny option will keep the sight higher than even the allchin mount. You just pick from about 3 options to suit various hole patterns, then mount directly to the allchin plate. I love it. On the topic of site choice, I love my vortex venom, but have also heard good things on the fastfire. Will come down to preference on dot size and color since different manufacturers will have different offerings and you will likely be forced into one brand over another as a result. For example, I love dots that are 6-9 MOA for what I shoot (uspsa or steel challenge). The venom was a 3.5 or 6 moa offering, and RMRs can be had as high as 9, but just be weary it is only in the fiber optic dual illuminated reticle. So a great outside competition gun, not the best for inside work with inconsistent or varying ambient light. I would love a 6moa green dot but the only way to get that is RMR in non-led version. Kind of sucks no one does a LED version in green, that is just a basic dot and not something fancy.
