Hello to all, my first post. I have been watching and trying to learn for some time and I thank all who contribute to this wonderful forum.I apologize if this subject has been beat to death, I did a search and found no exact answer. I purchased a S&W 940 several years ago and I have not fired it until today. First 5 rounds went off no problem but I did notice they stuck in the cylinder. These were brass case I purchased from Cabellas, maybe S&B brand. Then I had to carefully pry them out and loaded the moon clips again with CCI Aluminum case blazer. 4 out of 5 fired and ejection was perfect. Then I tried another 5 and not one fired, I noticed slight indentions in the primer and decided to try them in my M9 and all fired flawlessly so to me that eliminated the ammo. I fired several boxes of that same ammo today in the M9 and not one misfire. After that I put the 940 away. So my question is, could it be the ammo that is does not like or a spring, firing pin? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I consider myself a novice with firearms, I have shot here and there pretty much all my life and have owned many handguns over the years. While having a machining background I could probably build the dies for a hand gun, actually I have worked on forging dies for the Beretta but that is nether here no there. All I am trying to say with instruction I can be pretty handy so maybe I could attempt a fix myself if it seems appropriate to some experienced shooters. Or, would the suggestion be to take it to a Gunsmith? Thank you in advance.

I didn't hear you say you cleaned and lubricated the gun after all this long storage?

I am sorry, I should have said I did do that.

Did I read that you used moon clips for the 940???
If not, Buy some and try again!
And if you dont like the gun,
PLease email me!
Peter.

My 940 works with or without moonclips. The 940 is a J Frame which has a coil mainspring and no strain screw to back out. If you did use moonclips and you had to pound one out of the cylinder along with the stuck cases, it is likely the arms will be bent and this might absorb some momentum from the hammer fall. I could see misfires if that is the case. Make sure all the moonclips are straight. I have discovered that +P+, some +P and all inferior brass at any pressure can tie up my 940.

Thanks David, that makes sense, I did use moon clips and the first 5 did fire flawlessly. I will check the clips!
