Well, I win the "Where will it come in" contest. Came in at Fourchon-a little west of Grand Isle just like I said it would. So it appears that it will affect us just like Gustave did in 2008. That means lots of wind and rain but not nearly as strong as Gustave. It is starting now and will probably be a snarky day and night for us-but nothing spectacular. As far as the levee overtop in New Orleans, that appears to be a back levee in lower Plaquemine Parish on the east bank of the Mississippi which doesn't affect anything but marsh. I predict that everything is gonna be OK-we may see a bit of surge tommorrow from Vemillion bay but not much. I suspect Stevens will be getting it worse than me down in Thibodeaux.

I live about 30 miles south of Jackson, MS. Raining now with light wind. On the drive to Jackson where I work, roads were wet but not bad. Lots more rain coming over the next 24 hours, forecast as much as 14 inches.

Rained all night and doesn't look like it's going to stop anytime soon. One tornado warning a couple of hours ago resulting in three downed trees. Power still on....no generator yet. Local creeks and rivers will probably flood some, no predictions yet. Most folks are staying home giving us fewer calls so far. I'm going 10-8 in a few minutes.

Sitting here, fat, dumb and happy. Power is still on, no rain at the monument. The rain comes with the feeder bands. Wind is about 30 with much higher gusts. All and all not too bad.
HOWEVER, high water IS a problem. One of our evac routes is now closed. A sailboat broke its moorings and collided with the bridge on Popp's Ferry Road. About another hour before the tide turns and starts out. Storm surge is about 6 to 8 feet in Biloxi Bay.

I'm sure the folks in south LA are having much bigger problems than I. I wish them well.

UPDATE: Highway 90(the beach hwy) is closed due to water and sand over the road. Storm surge on the gulf side is around 10 - 12 feet.

We really don't need any more wind but could sure use your rain.

I'm in Houston but am stating in touch with friends and family in the Hammond/ Ponchatoula area. No flooding yet in that area. Power is out and they are getting about 60 mph gusts. Looks like a major rain event for the next 2 days.

It has been going on here since I woke up at 3:30 AM Thibodaux is right in the track. the eye has gone over and the rain bands and wind are cranking up again. I suspect we'll be getting tropical storm winds most of the night. One son in Youngsville, near Caje, said the winds are just now picking up a little. He, like Caje, will probably be on the "good" side, the other son in Baton Rouge will be on the "bad" side supposed to star acting up there around 7 PM probably till daylight.
Yesterday I felt all the prep had been for a false alarm but I am surprised at the size and strength of this storm and glad took the time for the preparations.

Our thoughts and prayers to all those in the path of the storm. Serious flooding in some areas here in Florida - mostly west side of Palm Beach County. Saw homes in LA with water up to roof level - not a pleasant sight. Hope it all ends soon. Best wishes - Judge

Above Alexandria we are getting winds in the 30 MPH range and light rain. This thing looks like a slow moving monster that will drop a lot of water over a long period.

Sister in Law in Denham Springs ( just east of Baton Rouge) reports heavy rain all day but nothing horrible.. Amite river still in its banks.. only some minor flooding..

I was really hoping up to the last that it would turn west and hit us here. It would of taken some of the flood off ya'll, and I really love a good storm. I don't think my neighbors would agree with me, but you can't fight nature.

My wife's niece lost her house in plaqmines parish. Basically got out with their clothes on their backs. One levee got overtopped by the rising waters and they either had to open up another levee or destroy it to save the other one. They had to go in and rescue folks trapped in their attics with axes. The niece had her house completely redone by that tv show that singles out people and she went to Bannf in Canada while it was being done. Then the house got redone by the same folks after it had again been flooded. Don't know about this time. Supposedly that area is covered by 20' of water. Be awhile before she can go there and see what can be salvaged. Over here in New Iberia we had high winds and lotsa rain. Seems to have calmed down somewhat. Power has been going on and off since about 4am today. St.Martinville has had a few outages. So stay safe ya'll Frank

If anything, it's worse today. More thunderstorms, wind gusts, and heavy rain than yesterday, at least in the central part of the state. Weather alert radio is going off constantly with one warning or another.
