Been using a lot of Hornady and Remington 148gn HBWC's in .357 and .38 for PPC and Bullseye shooting.
Purchased some Missouri 148gn DEWC's to try. There is a small groove about a tenth of an inch down, not a cannelure, but it seems to accept a roll crimp like a cannelure.
Have not charged or shot any, but did seat and crimp a half a dozen heads in empty cases in both calibers. They work much better with speedloaders. I usually seat .015" proud, could I create any issues that should not be created?

Many of the DEWC and PBWC used to have a crimping groove as you described. I used to shoot those many years ago before switching to the Remington JBWC.

That is a crimp groove and I use it all the time when I load DEWC bullets. I find the ammo to be more consistent when they are all crimped instead or using no crimp. As a matter of fact, for the past few years when I buy wadcutters they are always that style of bullet with the crimp groove. Like said above, you will like them seated that way.

I cast a Lachmiler 148 gr that is just slightly reduced diameter at the nose, and has a crimp groove, and I have found that a consistent crimp, even at Bullseye loads, increases consistency.

The one on the right looks remarkably similar to the self defense round that I carry in my Model 442.

You correctly made use of the crimp groove, so don't worry about the seating depth and amount of crimp.

Get the charge right and you're golden. :)

I use a S&W Mod. 14 for Bullseye league shooting and find that when I seat any WC or HBWC out so that it just touches the cylinder throat I get much better accuracy. I can't see any harm in doing what you are by seating them to the crimp groove as long as your NOT shooting them in a S&W Mod. 52. You might want to experiment some like I did and see if by moving the seating depth in and out if your accuracy improves, mine did improve a lot by seating out more.

Loaded some 38's and 357's over my usual charge of 231 for 148gn lead WC's. Ran them thru a 627, 686, 19, and a couple of 14's. Could not be more pleased with the results. Thank you forum members...........And Missouri Bullets...........2#
