2yrs ago I bought a 60-18 ASNIB 5" barrel in box with papers etc.
for $300, 50 rounds through it.
I just traded it for 686 no dash 2.5" barrel in 90% condition, no

box or papers, rubber Pachmayr grips,
Did I screw up, or is it a fair trade?

You seem to be judging this deal on the $ factor involved. Would it be better to look at the deal based on how you are going to use the gun? Both are Smith .357s, but both seem to have different purposes.

As I read many years ago, a great price on a can of stewed tomatoes is meaningless if you do not like stewed tomatoes. ;)

My purpose for the 686 is cold weather ccw. the purpose of the 60-18
was both novelty show and tell.I also have a minor collection of J frames.
I will miss the 60-18, but have a limited budjet (Social Securty),and a
wife.

I see a lot of this sort of thing and here's my two cents worth. If you are happy and the other fellow is happy all is good! Questions on money after the fact can often sully an otherwise harmonious outcome.

Agreed! If you intend to use the 686 then have at it. If the 60 was a BBQ gun, then it's a very nice dust collector. I have a 2.1' Mod 60 .357 that I do carry and shoot, but it's not fun with full house magnums. The 686 is an upgrade for sure.

Beings I can shoot K's, L's, and N's much better than a J, would be a no brainer for me. In other words, YOU DONE GOOD! Bob

I would love to have a 5" m60 to go with my two 5" 63-4's but I would trade in a heartbeat for a no dash 686. The only 5" m60 I have seen was right at $550 used. Add at least $150 to that for a 686 no dash and you still got a great deal. My gut says you did great.

I'm anxious to shoot the 686, but I sent it in to S&W for 27 year
old recall on the no dash, -1. Happy with customer service, shipped both ways on their dime. Should have it back by mid-
April, will post results..

I also don't think it a mistake. You noted that the 60 was for "show-and-tell" and "novelty." While certainly not unreasonable to buy a nice revolver for that purpose, your requirements now seem to be different. In this case you want a CCW revolver. You now have a CCW revolver. Maybe better suited for your current use than the 60, I think that you will find the 686 a much more versatile gun to have. AND, given the prices for 686/586/681/581 etc., you have made a pretty good buy.
