Charlie B - retracting above post

Forum Members and Mods;

I am retracting the post above about Cabela's forms and paperwork.

I do not have any proof of the items I asserted to, and therefore my post is basically "bad mouthing" a vendor and I'm not wanting to do so.

There are of course many fine items for sale in Cabela's so please accept my apologies for contributing to rumors and innuendo.

Thanks for listening, and if I get a ding from Mods then I accept.

If you buy the gun let us know also let us know about the non warrantee on their used firearms .i would take a chance at that price if the other side of gun looks good as model10 s are easy to work on ( well if you have connections like the forum members here they are) so repairs if needed aren't too exspensive. Most states have what is referred to as a lemon law where if you purchase something the seller has to take it back and refund money if item is not correct within the first day or two .

If mechanicals are equal to cosmetics I would say that is a very fair price. Prior the the Bass Pro takeover Cabelas was a great place to purchase used firearms. Prices could be negociated on slow moving stock and 10% military discount at checkout.

I will be interested to hear if Cabelas will let you remove the trigger lock to inspect it. I guess you could at least swing open the cylinder to check the chambers and the barrel. I don't think I would want to buy one under those circumstances, though.

Yes, I was going to buy another firearm, a rifle, and they make you sign a statement that the gun is sold as is, not returnable and not warranteed. And they do not take the lock off the gun. When they were bought by Bass Pro all their policies changed.

I went back to check on the S & W and it was gone (along with the Colt and two other Smiths that were in that display case.) No matter. I decided not to buy it for reasons having nothing to do with that gun. Oh, and I changed my mind on the rifle and didn't buy it either. I think I won't be shopping Cabelas anymore. I am not a happy shopper. My wife says they are very rude, and she's a New Yorker. She knows rude when she sees it! LOL

Cabela's no return, no warranty policy -update

It appears that PeterDE has confirmed what I posted in #20 above, and not knowing where PeterDE resides, it would appear that the "policy" is in effect at all Cabela's. I know it for the Cabelas in my area of Virginia, and for another Cabela's in a border State, and now wherever PeterDE resides.

To me this is sad because I agree with another poster that after sitting for some shelf time, most firearms were negotiable at least 10% and another military discount, sometimes coupled with a "dealer-to-dealer" (I have a FFL 03) I used to be able to walkaway with a "reasonable" price from their very high tag price. So...mostly all it took was time, and of course I never worried that if someone wanted that gun enough to pay the high tag...well...they wanted it worse than me.

Maybe this Cabela's policy will be good for my LGS (IF they can stay in business, 1 down a year ago, another recently, 2 to go...sad). At least every LGS here stands behind what they sell, and would bend over backward to make something right if you did get something with a problem.....AND...I have never seen any policy in writing.....but always a handshake after a sale along with a thank you.:)

Thanks PeterDE for verifying what I had been told.

I got the following information after discussing the trigger locks (on all long guns too!) situation with the Gun Library Manager at a Cabela's in my area.

Not only will they NOT remove the trigger lock at any time for you to inspect, it will not even be removed AFTER you pay. After you pay and fill out all paperwork the weapon is secured within a large manila envelope, wrapped with Cabela's label tape, and you are handed two (2) "keys" to the trigger lock.

Once you have exited the store, I assume you are free to open the envelope, unlock the trigger guard, check the bore, check for end shake, and push off, etc. BUT.....here is the rub to me:

One of the extra pieces of paperwork (not Fed, not State) is supposedly a page you sign that you acknowledge the firearm is sold as is...no warranty of any sort, no buy back at all. The wording is that if something is wrong, Cabela's will attempt to locate a gunsmith that you can deal with privately to repair the firearm.

Granted I have NOT personally seen this form, but the very nature of not being able to perform basic checks of any firearm, and then to be told it cannot be checked until after purchase and leaving premises is just so foreign to me that I'm not going into a Cabela's in the future.

IF...the form as described above is true and accurate, then to me it is worse than Internet buys with zero recourse to the buyer. Again...the description of the form and the wording came from a Manager at one stores Gun Library, but I haven't seen the actual form.

Maybe some Forum members can chime in and tell if they have recently purchased any firearm from Cabela's and found this to be true.

Don't know about Cabela's but that pretty much the process at Dunham's around here.......up to and including walking you out the front door. Did it once on a new S&W M&P .22 Compact bought on sale with a gift card...... probably won't ever do it again.

I was ready to buy a new handgun at Bass-Pro in Ft. Lauderdale. They would not remove the trigger lock so that I could make sure the trigger was smooth. That was the end of my dealing with them. That policy makes me think they do not trust their customers.
