Mod. 14-1 Hammer Doesn't Cock in DA

Ebay is your friend for parts. There were some people who were selling demilled K frame parts. I got a complete stainless kit for nice price.

Contemplating my options before deciding to rust blue myself, send out for re-blue, break it down for parts, or sell as is.

Called S&W and this revolver just made the 1960 cut-off for them to work on it. Pricing seems comparable to other companies for re-bluing.

Would there be any reason not to send it to S&W? When sold in the future, would having the work done by S&W be beneficial?

Will they leave the SA components untouched?

Of the finishes offered by S&W, which would be correct for this revolver? 'Standard Polish' or 'High Bright Polish'?

If not sent to S&W, who would you recommend?

Thank you.

As a true SINGLE ACTION only revolver, it is more valuable than if converted to sa/da.
Factory standard blue would make it look original even though refinished.
Frankly would just clean it up and not refinish.

Smith has made a number of S.A.O. revolvers over the years. I have a 1955/45 Factory S.A.O. Have contemplated having it converted to DA but have never followed through.

That is a fairly rare SA only hammer in that gun and cannot be made DA with sear, pin and spring. Get a replacement DA hammer and after the sear is fitted, it will work fine.

Standard hammer and trigger SA and DA working edges shown below.

Barring any other problems, the investment would be the amount of parts and the fitting labor, if needed. I would say approx. $100.00-$125.00. If you would like to sell it you have a buyer.

Really nice pictures. Good job.

It looks like someone lathered Naval Jelly on that poor thing.

I'd get on EBay and buy a K frame parts kit for the hammer and trigger. Fit them up and then, if you're capable, give it the highest polish blue you can in house. I wouldn't spend a ton of money on it. M

Or, sell it as is as the SAO 14 is considerably more rare than the traditional version.

Coca-Cola will do that to a blue finish as well. Have seen that happen at a gun show.

The hammer and trigger are both SA only.

I vote for re-blue in house and leave SA.
