Hey folks, I've probably got a problem most would like to have. I have a NIB 24-3, 4", with all the goodies, absolutely beautiful. For some reason I'm not really fond of it because its not P&R like everything else I have. I know if I sell it, it'll probably be very hard to replace and it really is a good fit for my N frame collection. Should I just keep it and be happy? Anybody else have a similar problem?

Dave, I would keep it and not think twice of selling it. I have the 24-3 in 3", 4", and 6 1/2" all in the boxes. I just like the feel of them, but I shoot the 624s.

Hi Dave. The most difficult for me to keep are the ones I don't shoot. They seem to make the best trading fodder for the ones I desire more.

I'd have to say the only way I'd let go of a model 24, especially a 4" would be if something really special was coming in to take its place.

Dave, Most of us are at odds with what to sell or keep when we are temporarily short on cash/ Married/ Raising children/ Need a new toy/ Insert problem here...

If it doesnt make you happy/ Sell it and get something that does.

EVERYONE here regrets selling something years later.

If you are lucky enough to be filthy rich...sell nothing, keep everything, regret nothing.

Then will it all to your family and friends to piss away for next to nothing...But, Hey your dead anyway right?

Not trying to rain on your parade....If your short on ca$h & need the $$$ for something new you cant live without SELL IT.

If you dont need the cash..I wish I had your dilemma ....
BEST OF LUCK...CHEERS!

I have the same gun. I have a fairly exstendsive collection of smiths and colts and I consider that gun to be just about the finest packing, best shooting and most sensible gun in my collection. Try standard magna grips on that gun. I have faux ivory from eagle on mine, (smooth) and it makes a fine feeling gun for me.

I agree, keep it unless you really need the funds from the sale. In life, everything changes. Regardess of how hard you might want to keep things the same, change will come. You can postpone it, alter it, and deny it, but ultimately everything changes. The same goes for thoughts, opinions......likes and dislikes. I have lost count of the firearms that I have disgarded in my safes for years due to lack of interest over others, only to 'discover' them later and garner great pleasure from them. Pardon the philosophical banter, but I will bet at some point in time you will begin to enjoy the 24-3 and rejoice in the fact that you didn't sell it. In summary, keep it.

I also agree wholeheartedly with feralmerril, put a set of magna stocks on it. IMO the 'N' frame 4" and shorter barreled guns seem to handle, balance and look better with the magnas. It may change your view on the gun in that it will feel dramatically different.

Since only magnums and .22's were recessed, that shouldn't even be an issue for you. I can take them pinned or not. Some Smiths are better that aren't pinned like the 25-5's (correct throats).

Don't sell it, especially since you say it is NIB with all the goodies. I have sold way toooooo many smiths that I thought I didn't need, or that weren't exactly what was floating my boat at the moment, only to get on a new kick a year later, and really regret selling, especially since I had to go looking for what I had already sold, and usually at a higher price.:(

BTW, I have that same gun, and it aint leavin' this ol' boys collection.

Don't sell it, you'll regret it down the road. My 24-3 is one of my more favorite shooting guns, and it packs well in the field. I carry mine with a full capsule of #12 shot snake load when out shooting Prairie Dogs.

I did not like the fit/feel of the combat grips, so I modified a set of round to square rosewood grips I got from Kelly's.

I say keep it. I had one and had to sell it to help pay some bills. I regreat having to sell some of my guns for bills. But that is why the wife does not complainabout me buying my S&W revolvers.

Plus another one for the keep it crown I have learned over the years not to sell or trade em. Now when a quality firearm fall's into my grasp I keep em! I'll let my survived by list in my obit. worry about them then!

OK folks, it stays. I have no need to sell it and I've got room in the safe. I appreciate the comments. Maybe I'll warm up to it over time.

I wanted one for about 40 years, never got around to it until about three years ago when I got a M24-3 4". Since N frames are a little big for me anyway, it was like a dog catching a car--now what?

It's nice, very nice, but I have other guns I like more and shoot better, and have had more good times with. So it's just another "thing". I appreciate it but there's no sentimental tie there.

I've bought, sold, and traded a lot of guns. Even when I made dumb moves and sold guns I shouldn't have, it was just life and I've moved on.

However there is a M21 5" around Marysville CA that I sold for $50 in 1967 while stationed at Beale AFB. Not my smartest move...

A 5" Triple Lock Target ten years later has helped the healing, though.

Keep it til you find a 1st, 2nd 3rd or even 1950 m&p model that really floats your boat, then you can sell it.

You definitely need to sell it. Without a pinned barrel it's nearly worthless, but I'm generous, I'll give you a few hundred bucks for it. Send me an email. ;)

I think you made a wise decision. I've been looking for one like that for years, but on the rare occasions that I found one, I happened to be broke. :(

I would not sell it. You will regret letting a fine revolver to.
