I shot my 28-2 for the first time today and the trigger in S/A was consistent for five chambers, but a bit harder for one. Also noticed the hammer has a little play while cocked for those five chambers but no play when cocked for the sixth. This revolver was left to me by my grandfather and as far as I know had never been fired. The only thing I noticed is it appears the cylinder had been turned the wrong way after being closed a time or two due to the marks on the slots. Any thoughts?

If your Grandfather shot it very little the trigger will continue to improve for the first 500 rounds as it smoothes itself out. As far as a turn line on the cylinder all S&W revolvers get them to some degree when they are fired for real or dry fired.
