I'm looking at a 31-1, 32 cal., 4 inch in excellent condition no box original grips ser # H45xxx. The dealer is asking $600. What is the value of one of these? Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Seems a little high to me although I haven't seen any others sold recently. As a rough comparison, I picked up a pre-model 33 last weekend which looked like it just came out of the factory (also no box or papers) for $420. That is a 38 S&W instead of 32 L and is 1954 or so production versus the 31-1 at around 1970 (I think). I'd like a 31 or pre-31 at around $400 but I'd have a tough time with $600 without box and papers.

Model 31-1 Estimate

Fletre,
In making an estimate about value, one would have to ask if this pistol is in nickel or blue? As a comparison, I recently bought a Model 30-1 in 4 inch barrel nickel in 95% condition with a correct S&W branded holster for less than $450. The model 30-1 is a round butt version of the 31-1 Square Butt revolver.
$600 would be too rich for my blood...

It is blue. I offered 300 for it. I thought 600 was high so I offered what I thought was a safe price without knowing.
