Just bought a s&w mod 36 , first s&w I've owned and need help putting a date on this bad boy. Has a pinned on barrel and has 517561 serial number on bottom of grip and has by the cylinder 55511 two dots below that a small H to the right and a 4 with a smaller three to the right? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would guestimate the shipping time frame to be around 1966 or 1967. I know 3538xx letters to September, 1964 and 1969 started with 786544.
Maybe Hondo44 will take a look at this and narrow that down for you.
Does it have the third style flat cylinder release or the rounded, contoured one? That change came in 1966.

Welcome! The number off the bottom of the grip frame on S & W revolvers is the SN. If there is no letter in front of this number, it probably shipped in 1966 or '67; if there is a J in front, probably 1977. Hope this is helpful.

No numbers in front and I think I has a contoured , round cylinder release.......what should I expect the value of this gun to be?

Value is dependent on its condition, and with modern guns this usually means finish and metal wear. Are you able to post a photo?

Can't post a photo but its in very good shape finish is about 90 to 95% with no holster wear

In my part of the country, that gun sounds like it'd be worth somewhere between 325 & 400 bucks depending on condition. True "90-95%" finish & corresponding general condition would be on the higher end of that scale, shooter-grade condition would be on the lower end. Original serial-numbered grips & box, as well as "etcetera", would increase the value.
