Mod 41

I am looking at a Model 52-2 (also a great bullseye gun) and would love to have a Model 41. Is it a newer version or older? Does it have the cocked indicator? They say the older ones with the cocked indicator are the best. Let me know if you decide not to buy, I may be interested depending on condition and year produced.

I purchased the mod 41

I purchased the mod 41 for $700 and a free box of $9 match ammo. The 41 is real clean and no wear it was born in 1987. I shoot 100 rounds of cheep ammo through it. It misfires about every 10 rounds. Will the misfires continue with better shells? Is there something wrong with the fireing pin?

Try CCI SV (standard velocity). The 41 was made for SV ammo. Also, clean it well and make sure the chamber is clean.

Mine all run pretty well somewhat dirty (200-300 rds) but some don't like the dirt.

I've looked in stores but don't see CCI SV on any ammo. Where can I get some?

CCI Standard Velocity works well in most Model 41s. If you have a Dick's Sporting Goods nearby, they typically have 500 round bricks for $25 when they are in stock (at that price they don't last long). Otherwise, try ordering online from Cabelas, MidwayUSA, etc. and expect to pay around $35 per brick plus shipping.

41s will run on most all ammo, but better on some than others. Just try different types. No need to restrict it to standard velocity. But 41s seem to be rather sensitive to some manufacturer variations in case dimensions in the head area, and there is a characteristic type of ejection jam on some guns. It's fixable.

Some manufacturers are using reclaimed mongrel brass of unknown alloy, which is too hard. This can cause all sorts of misfire problems, which are no fault of the older guns, designed to be fired with good .22 ammo made long ago.

I have an early 41 with long barrel and comp, indicator pin, extra short heavy barrel, extra mags, and full set of weights. Have owned and shot it since 1970.

Because 41s are known to be temperamental with some makes of ammo, I've wound and tempered about 8 - 10 different recoil springs, using slightly different diameters of music wire, coil spacing, and overall length. If it doesn't run right with one ammo brand, I try a different spring. One of them is guaranteed to work.

The accuracy of these 41s is fearsome. They make bad ammo shoot like good ammo, as long as you have some with priming compound all the way around the inside of the rim. Forget Remington. You're going to love your 41, Sandygun.
