I have a Mod. 58 4" made in 1965 S/n S258xxx
It is all original with the Original Magna Grips numbered to the gun. It's a solid 97% with alittle wear at the end of the barrel.
My question is, how hard are these to find being that age with the grips?
Thanks

With the original grips like you describe you have a $900+- gun. Like SP said, very often the original numbered to the gun grips are striped off...

Also, the 58 had a different grip style then any other N frame, they were tapered at the bottom like J frame Model 31 and 32 for example. If they were stripped off a 58, then they would be hard to replace them. Original grips always add to the value of any pistol.

Gun shops or others who buy a gun to resell it sometimes will replace the original stocks with something cheap then sell the originals separately. Especially if the stocks are rare...

Many of us lament this practice, but someone who is in the business and struggling to make a living may not give a ... what we lament. :(

There's a 58 on GB with the wrong grips. I emailed the seller if the originals or original style were available. They weren't.

I bookmarked that auction.
I recently saw a 58 at a gun show with very well-fitting magnas, but not the RIGHT magnas - the PC style N-frame magnas. Most people won't know the difference.

Thanks for the info

I was thinking of selling the 58 but I have come to my senses and back in the safe it goes.

Thanks again. I almost did something that I would have regretted down the road.:o

Back in 1966, I bought a brand new 58 for $81.00

I didn't like the PC magna grips and I couldn't afford
Target grips, so I busted the PC's up to get the hardware to make these.
I carried the gun as a duty side arm for 13 years..

Now the danged original grips would be worth more than the durned gun to most folks.

Me and that gun can tell some stories and there ain't enough money around to buy that gun or the grips today.

There was a 99% LNIB Model blue 58 S serial # at a local gun shop with correct PC diamond number grips, tool kit and papers etc. that sold for $1295 about an hour after it was put up for sale. It all comes down to who wants it, and what they are willing to pay. There are alot of people looking for them.
