I'm new to this site so please bear with me.

I've got a 10-15 year old mod. 586, 8 3/8" barrel with adkustable front sights.

Would anyone know where I can gain information on how to use and correctly adjust the front sights?

Last, was or is there a re-call on this particular model?

Thanks for your help

Dougaz,

The adjustable front sight is simple to use. They were on certain PPC Competition and Hunter models.

The thumbwheel on the side of the front sight allows you to select each of the four height positions. What you do is zero your load for each distance that you expect to shoot at. For PPC, this would be 7 yards, 15 yards, 25 yards, 50 yards, etc. You adjust the front sight by using a small Allen key wrench to turn the sight adjusting screw up or down. At each position of the front sight thumbwheel is a cam step that takes that adjustment. For shooting, you just dial the thumbwheel for the shooting distance that you zeroed for.

I really appreciate the answers. I note that at the rear of the front sight, a minor amount of thumb pressure lifts the sight, allowing the wheel to be turned to position 1, 2, 3, or 4.

That function clearly adjusts the sight so I'm a bit confused about the pirpose/function of the 4 allen screws located on the top of the sight.

I appreciate your help and answers.
