Hi guys,

Does your 625 shoot the 45 AR case reliably? I used to have one and it just didn't work. When the gun fires, the primer will just lock up the action. Realized that the FP bushing wasn't flat with the recoil shield.

I'd appreciate your input.

Thanks in advance!

I have four 625's and a 25-2. All shoot ARs just fine. I've had the problem you describe in 610's firing hot 10mm loads without moonclips, but never in an acp revolver.

I've only put about 400 rounds of AR through my Mountain gun, but they worked well and shot well.

I have two 625's and a M-22, they work just fine with the AR. The only problem I have had was when I loaded a bit too hot with 255gr LSWC's, but the gun did not lock up or anything just sticky extraction.

I have two 625's (.45 ACP) and I am on track to shoot them about 5000 rounds (collectively) this year with Auto Rims. No problems whatsoever. I mean NONE! I got the first one about two years ago and the second one about a year ago. They have both also digested hundreds, if not thousands, of rounds with ACP cases and clips without issue.

I have a 25-2 and a 22. When I first got the 25-2 I had problems with the auto-rim cases binding on the recoil shield. It was returned to the factory 2 times for repair. It continued to bind until I figured out that if I trimmed the auto rim cases to 'trim to length' it worked fine. 45acp cases in the clips worked correctly from day one. Weirdest thing I have ever encountered with a S & W. By the way the gun shoots great groups and I used it in competition target shooting for several years. The 22 feeds and fires great.

Thanks for the responses. I was using brand-new Starline brass, and my loads were always on the low-end of the scale. No binding occurs when the rounds are in the gun. It only happened when the gun fires. It appears that as the primer deforms from the FP strike, it was enough for it to lock up the gun at the area of the FP bushing.

I foolishly sold the gun without giving S&W a chance to fix it. Oh well, live and learn.

I bought a 4" 625-8 when they first came out seven years ago, then, another -8, a 625JM, when they came out a couple of years later. Thousands of .45 ARs - most with .45 Colt lead (250gr LRNFP or 255gr LSWC) - never a problem.

A 625 is a keeper despite that ugly full-lug. I wish I had a MG in .45 ACP (I have two MGs in .45 Colt.). I love the traditional look.

YUour loads may be too light. Upon firing the primer backs out of the primer pocket and is "re-seated" by the case recoiling against the recoil shield . Insufficient recoil will not allow the "reseat" of the primers and then you get binding of the cylinder.

I have multiple 45acp revolvers and never had a problem with autorim.

A related question: I need 45autorim brass that has been nickle plated. Anyone know where I can find such a thing?
