Mod 65-5 3" Problems and Value

I am continuing my Model 64 and 65 3" project.

I am looking at a Model 65-5 3" in great shape. The want $449 for it and I have two concerns.

1. Is the price about right?

2. Anyone know of any significant issues with the 65-5 mofifications?

1. Seems a bit warm, but I haven't priced them in the last 6 months. I know that the 3" guns have been sought-after of late.

2. There's nothing wrong with the 65-5. A customized one is the gun I'm carrying today, in fact.

Hi, with ot the box and papers I would say $449 is a-little on the high side.
The 3rd. edition book says the model 65-5 had the following changes: New yoke retention system,floating hand,hammer nose bushing and a radius stud package on the 3" round butt.

I bought a 65-5 3" a few months ago for $425.00. I had been looking for quite a while and found one on this site. It's a great carry and house gun, plus it shoots right on the money. It also appears to have a good reputation, good luck.

At $449 for a 3" magnum K frame, I'd slap the money down so fast it'd make the clerk's head spin.

It really depends on where you live. Out here K-frames in ok shape start at $400...Anything 3" commands a premium.

$450 is certainly in the ballpark for around here. I really enjoy mt 65-5. I've had no issues with it and find it accurate and comfortable to carry.

I recently picked up my 3" 65-3 from a local private party (board member here) for $380. He purchased new, and fired it exactly 48 times.

It immediately became my favorite daily carry.

Here's my 65-5 that I got about 6 mos ago. Traded a Glock 19 and some $$ on it, so I figure it cost me about $525.

Once I replaced the Combat grips that didn't seem to fit my hand with some Executioner Stags it's become my favorite S&W to shoot.

I bought a M65 3" in November for $360.00 at a local shop. They were police tradeins. He had about half a dozen. I got to pick out the one I liked. It is a great gun, nice smooth action.

My boss at work tells me I always pay too much for Smiths when we are at the gun show. I reply that I am not paying too much, I am buying them too early. The mint 27 he laughed at me for paying $300 for...who is laughing now? What I am getting at is buy guns you WANT to own, and sooner or later, the value will catch up with what you paid. I mean honestly, you will let the price of a night on the town keep you from the Smith you can keep forever? Open your wallet my friend...I have never, ever regreted paying too much for a Smith I really wanted, but have often regreted walking away from one. As for the Mod 65...I have a matched pair that are simply not for sale, and they have been comforting companions on many adventures.

I sold the combats on here before I bought the stags.

Once someone puts some Executioner stags on a gun it's unlikely they will take them off, let alone sell them.

Hey!

You can't go wrong with a Model 65, 3 Inch!
I snagged a M65-3 SC State Police turn in for $325 with the original box. It had some carry wear but was in excellent mechanical shape. I dressed out the nicks and scratches then polished with Flitz. Then added new screws and S&W combat grips. It's my prime carry revolver. Make sure the timing and lockup are OK and you should be good to go. All M65's are pretty good shooters. Take your time and get a set of grips that fits your hand and points well. Your M65 will be a great shooter too!
